Women’s Tennis Defeated by No. 41 Furman, 6-1

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Brown women's tennis team was defeated by No. 41 Furman, 6-1, on Sunday at the Mickel Tennis Center. Senior Katie Ta (Mission Viejo, Calif.) highlighted play for the Bears, coming back after a first set loss to win her singles match.

"Furman is a tough team that is very disciplined with its shot selection and that concept made the difference in most of our matches today," said head coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "I was proud of our upperclassmen in the singles line up for their fight, intensity, grit and willingness to be uncomfortable. We need to continue to learn how to compete when our opponents are stressing us and making us hit an extra shot in every point. I trust we will learn from today and grow as competitors."

The Paladins took the doubles point with wins in second and first doubles. In singles' play, Brown battled but Furman was able to increase its lead with victories in fifth, fourth, third, second and first singles, respectively. Ta put the Bears on the board with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) showing in the sixth spot.

The Bears next close out non-conference play at Davidson on Tuesday, March 26 at 3:00 p.m..
