Women’s Basketball’s Mehta, Gaziano Earn All-Ivy for Third Straight Year

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's basketball senior guard Shayna Mehta and junior guard Justine Gaziano have both earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors through a vote of the conference's eight head coaches, the Ivy League conference office announced on Wednesday.
Earning All-Ivy for the third straight year, Mehta (San Francisco, Calif.) finished her career with 1,785 points, ranking second in program history – and 11th in Ivy League history – while setting a program record with 261 career made 3-pointers, standing fourth in Ivy history. In the Brown record book, she ranks second in career field goals (655), third in career points per game (16.1), fourth in career 3-point percentage (.358), fifth in career steals (255), sixth in career assists (303), second in games played (111), and third in games started (105).
Mehta made over 60 3-pointers in each of her four seasons, scored in double figures 92 times, eclipsed 20 points 29 times, had four 30-point games, and totaled nine double-doubles.
This winter she set a single-season school record with 96 steals. For the year, she ranked third in the league in points per game (16.5), first in steals per game (3.2), first in minutes per game (35.9), third in assists per game (4.3), and fifth in 3-pointers made per game (2.2). In school history, she finished the season fifth in points (495), fourth in 3-pointers (65), fifth in assists (130), and sixth in field goals (181). She scored in double figures 25 times on the year with seven 20-point games and two 30-point games.
Also gaining All-Ivy for the third time, Gaziano (Natick, Mass.) ranked second in the Ivy League in points per game (17.5), first in field goals made (194), second in total points (526), first in 3-point percentage (.360), and third in minutes per game (34.8). In Brown's single-season records, she finished third in points (526), fourth in field goals (194), and fifth in 3-pointers (64). For the year, she scored in double figures 24 times with 11 20-point games and one 30-point game.
For her career, Gaziano ranks sixth at Brown in career points (1,388), sixth in career 3-pointers (149), and ninth in career field goals (495). Over her first three seasons, she has scored in double figures 68 times, netted 20 points 30 times, and eclipsed 30 points four times.
The duo becomes the first pair of Brown teammates to garner All-Ivy in three straight seasons since Liz Turner '98 and Vita Redding '99 both collected All-Ivy accolades in 1996, 1997, and 1998. It marks just the fourth time in program history that the same two teammates have earned All-Ivy three years in a row.
Mehta and Gaziano are the first Bears to earn three All-Ivy awards since Sheila Dixon '13 took All-Ivy in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Both Mehta and Gaziano earned Second Team All-Ivy during the 2016-17 season. In 2017-18, Mehta gained Second Team All-Ivy, and Gaziano collected Honorable Mention All-Ivy. They become the 15th and 16th student-athletes in program history to earn All-Ivy three times.
