Andre Leon Talley M.A. '72 is an American fashion journalist, who is the former American editor-at-large of Vogue magazine. Growing up in the Jim Crow era South, his love for fashion was cultivated at an early age by his grandmother, Binnie, and his discovery of Vogue magazine. After graduating from North Carolina Central University, he earned an M.A. in French Literature from Brown in 1972, writing a thesis on the influence of black women in Charles Baudelaire. After spending time at Andy Warhol's Factory, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the New York Times, Talley landed at Vogue, where he worked as the Fashion News Director from 1983-87 and then as Creative Director from 1988-95, pushing top designers to have more African-American models in their shows. From 1998-2013, he returned to Vogue as the editor-at-large.
