Throughout the month of February, Brown Athletics will celebrate Black History Month through the "28 Days of Black at Brown" series. Each day during the month, the Bears will recognize African Americans who have made an impact on the university community and beyond.

Stephon Alexander Ph.D. '00, Professor of Physics at Brown
A Professor of Physics at Brown, Stephon Alexander Ph.D. '00 is a theoretical physicist specializing in the interface between cosmology, particle physics, and quantum gravity (String Theory and Loop Quantum Gravity). Alexander was elected president of the National Society of Black Physicists (NSBP) in November 2018, the nation's pre-eminent organization devoted to the African American physics community. Alexander is also co-director of Brown's Presidential Scholars Program, which recruits, supports and provides research opportunities for students from economically and demographically diverse groups. An accomplished jazz musician, he wrote a widely lauded book called The Jazz of Physics (2016), which explores surprising connections between theoretical physics and musical improvisation.
