Throughout the month of February, Brown Athletics will celebrate Black History Month through the "28 Days of Black at Brown" series. Each day during the month, the Bears will recognize African Americans who have made an impact on the university community and beyond.

Lee Thompson '71, Men's Track & Field

A record-setting and inspirational runner at Brown, Lee Thompson '71, won three Ivy League Heptagonal championships and earned induction into the Brown Athletic Hall of Fame. A team captain as a senior, he won the 1971 Indoor Heps title in the 600-yard run and captured the 440-yard dash title at Outdoor Heps in back-to-back years in 1970 and 1971. At the time of his graduation, he held school records in the 440-yard dash, 220-yard dash, and mile relay. In his senior year, he went undefeated in the 600-yard run and won the team's Henry Henshaw Bulova Watch Award. Also a four-year soccer player for the Bears, he helped the team earn three appearances in the NCAA tournament, including a trip to the national semifinals in 1968. A sociology and engineering concentrator at Brown, he went on to earn a law degree from Harvard Law School.
