
Track & Field Hosts Alden Invite in Season Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's and women's indoor track & field teams kicked off the 2019-20 season on Saturday as the Bears hosted the Alden Invitational. The Bears combined for nine individual victories and also won both relay events.

Senior Noah Korotzer (Palos Verdes, Calif.) won the 60 meters in a time of 6.94. Sophomores Calvin Perkins (Belmont, Mass.) and Derek Davay (Elkhorn, Wis.) claimed the top two spots in the 500 meters at 1:04.71 and 1:05.69, respectively.

Brown's 4x400 relay team of Sergey Gorban (Boca Raton, Fla.), Tim McDonough (Rocky River, Ohio), Perkins and Jono Pelusi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) came in first at 3:22.72.

In the field, rookie Altan Mitchell (Ankara, Turkey) won the triple jump in his first collegiate meet with a leap of 47-0.25 and was also runner-up in the long jump. Senior Nigel Despinasse (Baton Rouge, La.) captured the shot put at 53-11.75, while Kegan Schroeter (Narragansett, R.I.) took first place in the weight throw with a personal-best toss of 59-3.5.

On the women's side, the Bears swept the top four spots in the 60 meters, led by Sydney Scott (Charlotte, N.C.) with a personal-best time of 7.68. Brown also claimed the top three spots in the 300 meters as May Stern (Providence, R.I.) paced the group and hit a personal best time at 40.08.

The team of Hanna Barakat (Los Angeles, Calif.), Flynn Begor (Mt. Lebanon, Pa.), Amy Willig (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Arielle Desir (Ridge, N.Y.) won the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:55.07.

Junior Ijeoma Uche (Lawrenceville, Ga.) opened her season with a victory in the long jump at 19-3.25, while Zion Lewis (Canton, Ga.) added first place in the triple jump with a leap of 40-2.75.

The Bears are back in action on January 10-10 for the Harvard Invitational.
