
Women’s Soccer Tallies Five United Soccer Coaches All-Region Selections

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer senior Abby Carchio, juniors Sydney Cummings and Kayla Thompson, sophomore Zoe Maxwell, and freshman Brittany Raphino have all earned All-East Region honors, the United Soccer Coaches announced on Monday.
Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.), Thompson (Austin, Texas), and Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) all gained First Team All-East Region accolades while Carchio garnered Second Team All-East Region laurels, and Maxwell collected Third Team All-East Region plaudits. The five selections mark the most All-Region picks in a year in program history.
A three-time All-Ivy selection, Cummings played a critical role in helping the Bears tally 13 shutouts in 2019, the most clean sheets in program history. In the NCAA rankings, Brown stood second in goals allowed (eight), third in save percentage (.890), and fifth in GAA (0.40). Cummings played all 1,790 minutes on the season, and over the course of her career, she has played 4,803 of a possible 4,822 minutes (99.6 percent), while aiding the Bears to 24 clean sheets. In 2019, she led the team and ranked third in the Ivy League with seven assists.
Thompson distinguished herself as one of the top goalkeepers in the nation, ranking sixth in the NCAA in save percentage (.892) and ninth in GAA (0.44). For the season, she registered a 0.44 GAA, seven goals allowed, .892 save percentage, 10-2-3 record, and nine shutouts. She paced the Ancient Eight in GAA, save percentage, and shutouts. Her nine shutouts rank third in a single season in Brown history. A transfer student-athlete from West Virginia, she played all 699:30 minutes in Ivy play, notching an undefeated 6-0-1 mark.
The 2019 Ivy League Rookie of the Year and a unanimous First Team All-Ivy pick, Raphino led the team in goals (eight), points (19), and game-winning goals (three) on the year alongside three assists, ranking second in the Ivy League in goals, sixth in points, and tied for first in game-winning goals. In Ivy play, Raphino tallied four goals, one assist, nine points, and two game-winning goals. She ranked first in the Ancient Eight in goals and second in points and game-winning goals.
Now a two-time All-Region choice and a three-time First Team All-Ivy selection, Carchio posted nine points on three goals and three assists on the year despite missing seven games due to injury. She competed in all seven Ivy games, totaling seven points on two goals and three assists. In Ivy play, she led the league in assists and ranked fourth in points. A Senior CLASS Award Candidate for her accomplishments on and off the field, Carchio totaled 49 career points on 16 goals and 17 assists in 58 career games played.
A key component of the Bears' midfield, Maxwell started all 19 games, while leading the team's attacking players in overall minutes played (1,591) and Ivy minutes played (654). Over the team's last 10 games, she played 944 of a possible 960 minutes (98.3 percent). She posted four points on two goals on the year, netting goals against Columbia and Vermont.
In 2019, Brown won its first Ivy League title and made its first NCAA Championship appearance since 1994, advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Bears posted an overall record of 14-2-3, setting program records for wins in a season (14) and shutouts in a season (13). The Bears registered an undefeated mark in Ivy League play (6-0-1), finishing the year unbeaten in conference play for the first time since 1994. Brown tallied an unbeaten 11-0-1 mark at home with the 11 victories marking a program record for home wins in a season.
