
Women’s Basketball Drops 95-42 Decision at Massachusetts

AMHERST, Mass. – Brown University women's basketball dropped a 95-42 decision at the University of Massachusetts on Thursday night at the Mullins Center.
The Bears (2-3) trailed the Minutewomen (3-2), 43-21 at halftime before the hosts used a 24-2 run to start the second half, pulling ahead 67-23.
"We have to put this one behind us and get ready for UNH on Sunday," Brown head coach Sarah Behn said. "UMass is a very talented team, but we need to play much better."
The Bears placed 11 different student-athletes in the scoring column with 11 players competing for 10 or more minutes.
Freshman guard Sydney Rosant (Foster City, Ga.) scored a team-high seven points with two steals while sophomore forward Ashley Ducharme (Milton, Mass.) totaled six points and a team-best six rebounds. Senior guard Justine Gaziano (Natick, Mass.) netted six points, making 2-of-4 3-pointers alongside two blocks.
For UMass, Hailey Leidel scored 20 points, Paige McCormick netted 18 points, and Destiney Philoxy posted 15 points.
The Minutewomen shot 53.1 percent from 3-point distance, making 17-of-32 triples. UMass held a 29-6 advantage in points off turnovers while Brown connected on 9-of-12 free throws.
Gaziano connected on a pair of 3-pointers inside of the game's first three minutes to give Brown an 8-4 edge. UMass then closed the frame on a 19-2 run, moving ahead 23-10 at the end of the first quarter.
The two teams traded baskets throughout much of the second stanza with the Minutewomen taking the period, 20-11, and bringing a 43-21 edge into halftime.
UMass started the third quarter with 11 straight points, moving ahead 53-21, and claimed a 67-23 edge behind a 24-2 run. The hosts led 78-28 after three quarters. The Minutewomen took a lead as large as 95-40 in the fourth quarter.
UMass improved to 12-0 all-time against Brown.
Next, Brown plays at New Hampshire on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 1:00 p.m. (AmericaEast.TV) before hosting Merrimack on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+).
