Brown Football Hosts Dartmouth On Senior Day

Providence, R.I. -  Brown football concludes its 2019 season against Dartmouth on Saturday (11/23), looking to upend the Big Green, but also looking forward to the bright future of the program. It's Senior Day at Brown Stadium with kick-off at 12:00 noon.
Game Time Change:Â An adjustment has been made to the game time of Saturday's matchup between the Bears and Big Green which will now kick-off at 12:00 noon.

Brown Football Class of 2020: Brown will honor its 22 seniors in ceremonies prior to Saturday's game against Dartmouth. This exceptional group has excelled on the gridiron and has been extraordinary in the classroom and in their commitment to the community. The group includes Nick Allsop, Andrew Bolton, James Carnevale, Jared Cutlip, James Fadule, Dawson Goepferich, Livingstone Harriott, Spencer Hemmingway, Michael Hoecht, Alexander Hughes, Demitri Jackson, Nicholas Kane, Andrew Livingston, Emerson Logie, Victor Loolo, Phil Lynch, Brian Mercer, Toby Okwara, Elijah Pierre, Jakob Prall, Brendan Pyne and Cody Young.

The Bears:Â Â Brown (2-7, 1-5 Ivy) earned a 48-24 Ivy League win over Columbia last week behind quarterback EJ Perry, who threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, while establishing a new Brown record for total offense in a season with 3,264 yards. Allen Smith ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns, including a 70-yard TD scamper. Sophomore cornerback Nick Messina scooped up a fumble that was forced by Malcolm Brunson and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown.

The Big Green:Â Â Dartmouth (8-1, 5-1 Ivy) had a chance to wrap-up the Ivy League title last week, but had its 10-game winning streak snapped by Cornell, 20-17. The Big Green can gain at least a share of the Ivy title with a win on Saturday. Dartmouth has Ivy League wins over Penn (28-15), Yale (42-10), Columbia (59-24), Harvard (9-6) and Princeton (27-10).Â

Brown vs. Dartmouth – 97thMeeting:Brown and Dartmouth have met 96 times, dating back to 1894, with the Big Green holding a 60-32-4 series advantage. Dartmouth has won the last two games with Brown, including a 49-7 win last year in Hanover, NH.  In 2016, Brown built a 24-7 halftime lead and held on for a 24-21 win over the Big Green in Hanover.Â

Next Year:Â Brown opens its 2020 season on September 19, hosting Bryant at Brown Stadium. The Bears' will launch their Ivy season at home the following week against Harvard on September 26.

EJ Perry Sets Single Season Brown Total Offense Record/  Leads Nation In Total Offense:  Junior quarterback EJ Perry (Andover, MA) has set a single season Brown record for total offense with 3,264 yards, sixth best in Ivy League history, after amassing 334 total yards in Brown's win over Columbia. Perry, who passed for three touchdowns and ran for another vs. Columbia, broke the previous mark of 3,196 yards by Bears' head coach James Perry in 1999. His 503 plays are a new Brown record, breaking the mark of 492 plays by James Perry in 1999, while his 220 pass completions in 2019 rank 9th in the Brown record book. He also ranks third in the Ivy League in rushing with 728 yards. Overall, Perry has thrown for 21 touchdowns and run for another eight TD's. Perry has emerged as one of the top FCS quarterbacks in the nation and leads the nation in total offense with 362.7 yards per game. His 471 yards of total offense vs. Yale (331 passing/4 td's; 140 rushing/ 1 TD) ranks fourth in the Brown record book. Perry ran for three TD's and threw for another against Penn, running for 120 yards and passing for 235 yards. He accounted for 463 yards of total offense vs. Cornell (372 passing, 91 rushing) and threw three TD's. He also ranks sixth in the nation in completions (24.44 per game). Perry tossed TD passes of 37 and 21 yards vs. Princeton. He threw two TD passes (8, 57) vs. Holy Cross, passing for 237 yards and running for 47 yards. Perry accumulated 512 total yards against Rhode Island, including 420 passing yards (three TD's) and 92 yards on the ground. His 512 yards of total offense ranks second in Brown football history, second to Michael Dougherty's 538 total yards vs. Holy Cross in 2008. He excelled in Brown's season opening win over Bryant, being named the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Week, Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week and the Gold Helmet Award recipient as the New England Player of the Week. Perry accounted for five TD's (three passing, two rushing) and 410 yards of total offense against the Bulldogs in his Brown debut. Perry passed for 183 yards, completing 21-of-32 passes, and three TD's, and ran for another 227 yards and two TD's, including a 94-yard TD run, the second longest rushing play in Brown football history. His 227 rushing yards are the eighth most in the Brown record book and most ever for a Brown quarterback. Only Mark Kachmer's 95-yard run vs. Yale at the Yale Bowl in 2011 is longer than Perry's 94-yard TD scamper.A transfer from Boston College, who saw action in five games for the Eagles last season,  Perry is the Mass. HS state record holder for single season touchdown passes (47).

Fast and Faster:Head coach James Perry has developed a dynamic and fast style of offense that translates into points on the scoreboard. In two years as head coach at Bryant, Perry's squad averaged 30.3 points per game his first year and 32.5 points per game in 2018, scoring a school record 56 points in its final game against Howard. His 2013 offense at Princeton set league records for points (43.7) and yards (511.6) per game.

Jackson Leads Bears In Receptions: Senior Demitri Jackson (Nashua, NH) leads the Brown team in receptions with 38 catches for 343 yards and three TD's. He caught four passes for 33 yards, including a seven yard TD reception vs. Columbia.  Jackson made a team high six catches for 66 yards vs. Yale. He had four receptions for 31 yards vs. Penn. Jackson hauled in seven passes for 67 yards and a TD vs. Cornell. He eclipsed his 2018 season reception total with eight catches for 76 yards and his first career TD reception (four yards) vs. Bryant.  Jackson had four receptions for 33 yards vs. Rhode Island and four catches for 19 yards vs. Holy Cross.

Plowing the Road:The Bears return four of five starters to the offensive line, led by senior tackle and All-Ivy selection Phil Lynch (Milton, MA).  Senior Nick Allsop (North Easton, MA) returns at guard, junior tackle Chad Broome-Webster (Orlando, FL) at tackle and senior Toby Okwara (Charlotte, NC) at center. Senior James Carnevale (North Andover, MA) and junior Tucker Barnes (Hahira, GA) have also emerged as top linemen.

Boylan at Wide Receiver:Junior Scott Boylan (Bakersfield, CA) has 30 catches for 385 yards and a team high five touchdown receptions.  He had five catches for 41 yards last week vs. Columbia. Boylan had three catches for 35 yards vs. Penn and made five catches vs. Cornell and hauled in a 29 yard TD reception. He had a big day vs. Holy Cross with five receptions for 97 yards, including touchdown catches of eight and 57 yards. He caught two touchdown passes vs. Bryant (four and five yards), had two catches vs. Harvard and three receptions vs. URI, after making 30 catches for 355 yards in 2018. Â

Pierre – Brown Second In Sacks: Senior Elijah Pierre (Rockland, MA) has earned a starting role on the inside and ranks second on the Bears team with 2.5 quarterback sacks and is third with 4.5 tackles for loss. He made three tackles for loss and a quarterback sack vs. Bryant.  Pierre made four tackles, including a QB sack vs. Harvard. He made 13 tackles a year ago. Â

Gemmell on Receiving End of Andover Connection:Junior Dan Gemmell (Andover, MA) is a receiving favorite of Bears QB EJ Perry with the duo playing together at Andover High School. His 26 receptions rank fourth on the Brown team. He made a 22-yard TD grab vs. Yale. Gemmell also returns punts for the Bears. He made four catches for 72 yards vs. Cornell and paced the Bears with four receptions for 53 yards vs. Harvard. Gemmell also made three catches for 29 yards vs. Bryant. He had five receptions for 64 yards and a 21-yard TD vs. Princeton.Â

Pyne – Leader In Brown Tackles:Bears' senior outside linebacker Brendan Pyne (Bradenton, FL), who made eight tackles vs. Columbia last week,  leads the Brown team with 48 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss. He registered eight tackles vs. URI, including five solo stops, and had seven tackles vs. Holy Cross.  Pyne registered five tackles, including one for a loss vs. Cornell and had four tackles vs. Yale. He made four tackles vs. Bryant and five tackles, including one for a loss, vs. Harvard.  Pyne led the Ivy League in solo tackles (48) in 2018 and is the Ivy League's returning leader with 8.4 tackles per game. He registered a career-high 14 tackles vs. Columbia and 10 tackles vs. Cornell and Yale.

Bak On Top:  Junior free safety Davis Bak (Tampa, FL) ranks eighth on the Brown team with 27 total tackles, including 13 solo stops. He had a team high 10 tackles vs. Bryant and six tackles vs. Harvard. He ranked seventh on last year's team with 38 tackles overall.

Prall Catching On:Senior Jakob Prall (Tipp City, OH) ranks second on the Brown team 37 receptions for a team high 508 yards. He made a finger-tip 49-yard touchdown grab against Columbia. Prall came up with seven catches for 73 yards and a touchdown vs. Cornell and made six catches for 64 yards and a touchdown vs. Penn. He caught five passes for a season high 112 yards and a 37-yard touchdown reception vs. Princeton. He hauled in five passes for 111 yards vs. URI and came up with three catches vs. Harvard.  He also had four receptions vs. Holy Cross. Prall registered 25 catches for 394 yards and two touchdowns in 2018.Â

The Kicking Game:Senior Dawson Goepferich (Holt, MO) returns to the lineup after handling most of the kick-off duties a year ago. Goepferich connected on 5-of-5 extra points and punted once for 41 yards vs. Bryant, and booted a 25-yard field goal vs. Holy Cross. He also connected on a 30-yard field goal vs. Princeton and a 35-yard boot vs. Cornell. Goepferich ranks fourth in the Ivy League with a 38.7 yards per punt average.Â

Logie at Tight End:  Senior tight end Emerson Logie (New Canaan, CT) is an integral part of the offense with 22 catches for 232 yards.  He made four catches for 52 yards vs. Yale, including  his first career TD reception (17 yards). Logie made four catches vs. Cornell. He excelled vs. URI with five receptions for 87 yards, including a 32-yard reception and made three grabs vs. Holy Cross.

Harriott Returns:  Senior Livingstone Harriott (Central Islip, NY) has made 22 catches for 349 yards and three touchdowns.  He made six catches for 117 yards against Columbia, including a 10 yard touchdown grab. Harriott made two touchdown receptions vs. Yale, making four catches for 85 yards overall.

Smith Heads The Running Game:Sophomore Allen Smith (Westerville, OH) has run for 522 yards (7th in the Ivy League). Last week, Smith ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns vs. Columbia, scoring on runs of five and 70 yards. He had 83 yards and a touchdown vs. Penn. Smith rushed for a career high 109 yards vs. Princeton, his first career 100-yard rushing game. He paced the Bears with 80 rushing yards vs. Harvard, including a 22-yard touchdown scamper. Smith had three touchdowns vs. Rhode Island, with TD receptions of five and two yards, and a three yard TD run. He led the Bears in rushing in 2018 with 175 yards, despite missing four games. Â

Head Coach James Perry:  Bears' head coach James Perry '00 has returned to his alma mater to lead the Brown football program.  He's been able to find success throughout his career, posting a 23-7 record as a three-year starter at quarterback at Brown and throwing for an Ivy League record 9,294 career yards. He led the Bears to their first Ivy title in 23 years (1999), while being named the Ivy League Player of the Year and Bulger Lowe Award winner as the outstanding player in New England. He was named the Ivy League's Player of the Week an Ivy record nine times throughout his career. As the quarterbacks coach at Brown, Perry earned an Ivy Championship ring in 2008. He also won Ivy League titles as Off. Coordinator at Princeton in 2013 and 2016. He comes to Brown from Bryant where he was the head coach for two years.

Hoecht Anchors Defensive Front:Two-year team captain defensive tackle Michael Hoecht (Oakwood, OH) has seven tackles for loss to lead the Brown team, 15thbest in the Ivy League, and his 38 tackles overall are fourth on the Brown team. Hoecht registered 1.5 quarterback sacks vs. URI, while making five tackles overall. He made three solo tackles and had two quarterback hurries vs. Penn, and had four tackles, including one for a loss vs. Columbia. He made a team high nine tackles vs. Holy Cross, including two for a loss, and had four tackles vs. Princeton. His 15 career sacks are tied with James Develin '10 for fourth place on Brown's all-time list. He registered four tackles and earned a sack vs. Bryant and had three tackles, including two for a loss against Harvard. Medeiros Second Leading Defender:Sophomore Jason Medeiros (Rehoboth, MA) ranks second on the Brown team with 43 tackles. Medeiros made three tackles, including one for a loss, vs. Penn. He registered seven tackles vs. Cornell, including two fourth down stops and made eight total hits vs. Holy Cross. Medeiros, who intercepted his second pass of the season vs. Princeton with a 19 yard return,  preserved Brown's win over Bryant with an interception at the goal line as time expired, returning it 10 yards before sliding down to end the game.  He also had six total tackles against the Bulldogs and added four tackles, including one for a loss vs. Harvard. Medeiros registered 46 tackles in significant field action in 2018.Â

Bears In The NFL:  Brown has two of its former players on NFL team rosters once again in 2019.  Fullback James Develin '10, an engineering concentrator and defensive end at Brown, enters his seventh season with the New England Patriots. A Pro Bowl selection in 2017, Develin is the New England Patriots' starting fullback for four of the last five years, including the 2014, 2016 and 2018 Super Bowl Championship teams. Zak DeOssie '07 is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time Super Bowl Champion (2007, 2011) for the New York Giants. Coming into the 2019 season, DeOssie is the 2nd-longest tenured Giants player, behind Eli Manning.Â

Impact Freshmen Make The Grade:Several Brown freshmen are contributing to this year's squad.  DB Cooper DeVeau (Foxboro, MA)  ranks third on the Brown team with 41 total tackles with an interception vs. Columbia. DeVeau's 11 passes defended rank seventh in the nation and lead the Ivy League. He led the Bears with eight solo tackles against URI and nine tackles vs. Yale. WR Hayes Sutton (Norcross, GA) has 15 receptions for the season, and made a career high five catches for 62 yards vs. URI. Freshman FS Josh Ofili (Katy, TX) played a key role in Brown's win over Bryant with four tackles, including two for a loss and a sack. He has 31 tackles on the season. DB Joseph Shell (Frederick, MD) has 22 tackles on the season with an interception vs. Penn. He had five tackles vs. Cornell and registered seven tackles vs. URI. Shell also had four vs. Princeton and three vs. Holy Cross. LB Malcolm Brunson (Plainville, NJ), who has 37 tackles on the season, led the Bears with seven tackles vs. Princeton and registered five tackles vs. Yale.  He also played a major role in Brown's win over Columbia with a team high nine tackles and a key forced fumble that was picked up for a TD.

The Big Green:Â Â Dartmouth (8-1, 5-1 Ivy) had a chance to wrap-up the Ivy League title last week, but had its 10-game winning streak snapped by Cornell, 20-17. The Big Green can gain at least a share of the Ivy title with a win on Saturday. Dartmouth has Ivy League wins over Penn (28-15), Yale (42-10), Columbia (59-24), Harvard (9-6) and Princeton (27-10).Â

Brown vs. Dartmouth – 97thMeeting:Brown and Dartmouth have met 96 times, dating back to 1894, with the Big Green holding a 60-32-4 series advantage. Dartmouth has won the last two games with Brown, including a 49-7 win last year in Hanover, NH.  In 2016, Brown built a 24-7 halftime lead and held on for a 24-21 win over the Big Green in Hanover.Â

Next Year:Â Brown opens its 2020 season on September 19, hosting Bryant at Brown Stadium. The Bears' will launch their Ivy season at home the following week against Harvard on September 26.

EJ Perry Sets Single Season Brown Total Offense Record/  Leads Nation In Total Offense:  Junior quarterback EJ Perry (Andover, MA) has set a single season Brown record for total offense with 3,264 yards, sixth best in Ivy League history, after amassing 334 total yards in Brown's win over Columbia. Perry, who passed for three touchdowns and ran for another vs. Columbia, broke the previous mark of 3,196 yards by Bears' head coach James Perry in 1999. His 503 plays are a new Brown record, breaking the mark of 492 plays by James Perry in 1999, while his 220 pass completions in 2019 rank 9th in the Brown record book. He also ranks third in the Ivy League in rushing with 728 yards. Overall, Perry has thrown for 21 touchdowns and run for another eight TD's. Perry has emerged as one of the top FCS quarterbacks in the nation and leads the nation in total offense with 362.7 yards per game. His 471 yards of total offense vs. Yale (331 passing/4 td's; 140 rushing/ 1 TD) ranks fourth in the Brown record book. Perry ran for three TD's and threw for another against Penn, running for 120 yards and passing for 235 yards. He accounted for 463 yards of total offense vs. Cornell (372 passing, 91 rushing) and threw three TD's. He also ranks sixth in the nation in completions (24.44 per game). Perry tossed TD passes of 37 and 21 yards vs. Princeton. He threw two TD passes (8, 57) vs. Holy Cross, passing for 237 yards and running for 47 yards. Perry accumulated 512 total yards against Rhode Island, including 420 passing yards (three TD's) and 92 yards on the ground. His 512 yards of total offense ranks second in Brown football history, second to Michael Dougherty's 538 total yards vs. Holy Cross in 2008. He excelled in Brown's season opening win over Bryant, being named the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Week, Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week and the Gold Helmet Award recipient as the New England Player of the Week. Perry accounted for five TD's (three passing, two rushing) and 410 yards of total offense against the Bulldogs in his Brown debut. Perry passed for 183 yards, completing 21-of-32 passes, and three TD's, and ran for another 227 yards and two TD's, including a 94-yard TD run, the second longest rushing play in Brown football history. His 227 rushing yards are the eighth most in the Brown record book and most ever for a Brown quarterback. Only Mark Kachmer's 95-yard run vs. Yale at the Yale Bowl in 2011 is longer than Perry's 94-yard TD scamper.A transfer from Boston College, who saw action in five games for the Eagles last season,  Perry is the Mass. HS state record holder for single season touchdown passes (47).

Fast and Faster:Head coach James Perry has developed a dynamic and fast style of offense that translates into points on the scoreboard. In two years as head coach at Bryant, Perry's squad averaged 30.3 points per game his first year and 32.5 points per game in 2018, scoring a school record 56 points in its final game against Howard. Jackson Leads Bears In Receptions: Senior Demitri Jackson (Nashua, NH) leads the Brown team in receptions with 38 catches for 343 yards and three TD's. He caught four passes for 33 yards, including a seven yard TD reception vs. Columbia.  Jackson made a team high six catches for 66 yards vs. Yale. He had four receptions for 31 yards vs. Penn. Jackson hauled in seven passes for 67 yards and a TD vs. Cornell. He eclipsed his 2018 season reception total with eight catches for 76 yards and his first career TD reception (four yards) vs. Bryant.  Jackson had four receptions for 33 yards vs. Rhode Island and four catches for 19 yards vs. Holy Cross.

Plowing the Road:The Bears return four of five starters to the offensive line, led by senior tackle and All-Ivy selection Phil Lynch (Milton, MA).  Senior Nick Allsop (North Easton, MA) returns at guard, junior tackle Chad Broome-Webster (Orlando, FL) at tackle and senior Toby Okwara (Charlotte, NC) at center. Senior James Carnevale (North Andover, MA) and junior Tucker Barnes (Hahira, GA) have also emerged as top linemen.

Boylan at Wide Receiver:Junior Scott Boylan (Bakersfield, CA) has 30 catches for 385 yards and a team high five touchdown receptions.  He had five catches for 41 yards last week vs. Columbia. Boylan had three catches for 35 yards vs. Penn and made five catches vs. Cornell and hauled in a 29 yard TD reception. He had a big day vs. Holy Cross with five receptions for 97 yards, including touchdown catches of eight and 57 yards. Pierre – Brown Second In Sacks: Senior Elijah Pierre (Rockland, MA) has earned a starting role on the inside and ranks second on the Bears team with 2.5 quarterback sacks and is third with 4.5 tackles for loss. He made three tackles for loss and a quarterback sack vs. Bryant.  Pierre made four tackles, including a QB sack vs. Harvard. He made 13 tackles a year ago. Â

Gemmell on Receiving End of Andover Connection:Junior Dan Gemmell (Andover, MA) is a receiving favorite of Bears QB EJ Perry with the duo playing together at Andover High School. His 26 receptions rank fourth on the Brown team. He made a 22-yard TD grab vs. Yale. Gemmell also returns punts for the Bears. He made four catches for 72 yards vs. Cornell and paced the Bears with four receptions for 53 yards vs. Harvard. Gemmell also made three catches for 29 yards vs. Bryant. He had five receptions for 64 yards and a 21-yard TD vs. Princeton.Â

Pyne – Leader In Brown Tackles:Bears' senior outside linebacker Brendan Pyne (Bradenton, FL), who made eight tackles vs. Columbia last week,  leads the Brown team with 48 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss. He registered eight tackles vs. URI, including five solo stops, and had seven tackles vs. Holy Cross.  Pyne registered five tackles, including one for a loss vs. Cornell and had four tackles vs. Yale. He made four tackles vs. Bryant and five tackles, including one for a loss, vs. Harvard.  Pyne led the Ivy League in solo tackles (48) in 2018 and is the Ivy League's returning leader with 8.4 tackles per game. He registered a career-high 14 tackles vs. Columbia and 10 tackles vs. Cornell and Yale.

Bak On Top:  Junior free safety Davis Bak (Tampa, FL) ranks eighth on the Brown team with 27 total tackles, including 13 solo stops. He had a team high 10 tackles vs. Bryant and six tackles vs. Harvard. He ranked seventh on last year's team with 38 tackles overall.

Prall Catching On:Senior Jakob Prall (Tipp City, OH) ranks second on the Brown team 37 receptions for a team high 508 yards. He made a finger-tip 49-yard touchdown grab against Columbia. Prall came up with seven catches for 73 yards and a touchdown vs. Cornell and made six catches for 64 yards and a touchdown vs. Penn. He caught five passes for a season high 112 yards and a 37-yard touchdown reception vs. Princeton. He hauled in five passes for 111 yards vs. URI and came up with three catches vs. Harvard.  He also had four receptions vs. Holy Cross. The Kicking Game:Senior Dawson Goepferich (Holt, MO) returns to the lineup after handling most of the kick-off duties a year ago. Goepferich connected on 5-of-5 extra points and punted once for 41 yards vs. Bryant, and booted a 25-yard field goal vs. Holy Cross. He also connected on a 30-yard field goal vs. Princeton and a 35-yard boot vs. Cornell. Goepferich ranks fourth in the Ivy League with a 38.7 yards per punt average.Â

Logie at Tight End:  Senior tight end Emerson Logie (New Canaan, CT) is an integral part of the offense with 22 catches for 232 yards.  He made four catches for 52 yards vs. Yale, including  his first career TD reception (17 yards). Logie made four catches vs. Cornell. He excelled vs. URI with five receptions for 87 yards, including a 32-yard reception and made three grabs vs. Holy Cross.

Harriott Returns:  Senior Livingstone Harriott (Central Islip, NY) has made 22 catches for 349 yards and three touchdowns.  He made six catches for 117 yards against Columbia, including a 10 yard touchdown grab. Harriott made two touchdown receptions vs. Yale, making four catches for 85 yards overall.

Smith Heads The Running Game:Sophomore Allen Smith (Westerville, OH) has run for 522 yards (7th in the Ivy League). Last week, Smith ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns vs. Columbia, scoring on runs of five and 70 yards. He had 83 yards and a touchdown vs. Penn. Smith rushed for a career high 109 yards vs. Princeton, his first career 100-yard rushing game. He paced the Bears with 80 rushing yards vs. Harvard, including a 22-yard touchdown scamper. Smith had three touchdowns vs. Rhode Island, with TD receptions of five and two yards, and a three yard TD run. He led the Bears in rushing in 2018 with 175 yards, despite missing four games. Â

Head Coach James Perry:  Bears' head coach James Perry '00 has returned to his alma mater to lead the Brown football program.  He's been able to find success throughout his career, posting a 23-7 record as a three-year starter at quarterback at Brown and throwing for an Ivy League record 9,294 career yards. He led the Bears to their first Ivy title in 23 years (1999), while being named the Ivy League Player of the Year and Bulger Lowe Award winner as the outstanding player in New England. He was named the Ivy League's Player of the Week an Ivy record nine times throughout his career. As the quarterbacks coach at Brown, Perry earned an Ivy Championship ring in 2008. He also won Ivy League titles as Off. Coordinator at Princeton in 2013 and 2016. He comes to Brown from Bryant where he was the head coach for two years.

Hoecht Anchors Defensive Front:Two-year team captain defensive tackle Michael Hoecht (Oakwood, OH) has seven tackles for loss to lead the Brown team, 15thbest in the Ivy League, and his 38 tackles overall are fourth on the Brown team. Hoecht registered 1.5 quarterback sacks vs. URI, while making five tackles overall. He made three solo tackles and had two quarterback hurries vs. Penn, and had four tackles, including one for a loss vs. Columbia. He made a team high nine tackles vs. Holy Cross, including two for a loss, and had four tackles vs. Princeton. His 15 career sacks are tied with James Develin '10 for fourth place on Brown's all-time list. He registered four tackles and earned a sack vs. Bryant and had three tackles, including two for a loss against Harvard. Medeiros Second Leading Defender:Sophomore Jason Medeiros (Rehoboth, MA) ranks second on the Brown team with 43 tackles. Medeiros made three tackles, including one for a loss, vs. Penn. He registered seven tackles vs. Cornell, including two fourth down stops and made eight total hits vs. Holy Cross. Medeiros, who intercepted his second pass of the season vs. Princeton with a 19 yard return,  preserved Brown's win over Bryant with an interception at the goal line as time expired, returning it 10 yards before sliding down to end the game.  He also had six total tackles against the Bulldogs and added four tackles, including one for a loss vs. Harvard. Medeiros registered 46 tackles in significant field action in 2018.Â

Bears In The NFL:  Brown has two of its former players on NFL team rosters once again in 2019.  Fullback James Develin '10, an engineering concentrator and defensive end at Brown, enters his seventh season with the New England Patriots. A Pro Bowl selection in 2017, Develin is the New England Patriots' starting fullback for four of the last five years, including the 2014, 2016 and 2018 Super Bowl Championship teams. Zak DeOssie '07 is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time Super Bowl Champion (2007, 2011) for the New York Giants. Coming into the 2019 season, DeOssie is the 2nd-longest tenured Giants player, behind Eli Manning.Â

DeVeau's 11 passes defended rank seventh in the nation and lead the Ivy League. He led the Bears with eight solo tackles against URI and nine tackles vs. Yale. WR Hayes Sutton (Norcross, GA) has 15 receptions for the season, and made a career high five catches for 62 yards vs. URI. Freshman FS Josh Ofili (Katy, TX) played a key role in Brown's win over Bryant with four tackles, including two for a loss and a sack. He has 31 tackles on the season. DB Joseph Shell (Frederick, MD) has 22 tackles on the season with an interception vs. Penn. He had five tackles vs. Cornell and registered seven tackles vs. URI. Shell also had four vs. Princeton and three vs. Holy Cross.
