The 48 points scored by the Bears are the most since 2013, a 48-7 win over the Lions. The Bears improve to 2-7 overall, 1-5 in the Ivy League, while Columbia falls to 3-6, 2-4 in Ivy play.
"This was a great win over a very good Columbia team," said Bears' head coach James Perry. "This win means a lot to a great group of seniors and it's wonderful to see them having some success. We fought through the ebbs and flows of the game and keep improving every week."
Perry had another big game for the Bears, throwing touchdown passes of 49, 10 and seven yards and running for a two-yard touchdown. He completed 24-of-39 passes for 300 yards.
The nation's leader in total offense, Perry finished the day with 334 yards of total offense (300 passing, 34 rushing). His 3,264 yards of total offense this season eclipsed the previous record of 3,196 yards by current Brown coach James Perry in 1999, and ranks sixth in the Ivy League record book.
Senior Livingstone Harriott (Central Islip, NY) led the Bears' receiving corps with six catches for 117 yards and a 10-yard touchdown reception. Junior Scott Boylan (5 catches) and senior Demitri Jackson (4 catches) also had big days for the Bears.
Brown sophomore tailback Allen Smith (Westerville, OH) had his second 100-yard rushing game of the season, rushing 13 times for 113 yards, including touchdown runs of five and 70 yards.
Defensively, freshman Malcolm Brunson (Plainville, NJ) paced the Bears with nine tackles and forced a key fumble. Senior Brendan Pyne (Beradenton, FL) made eight tackles, including one for a loss, while freshman Harrison Ochs chipped in with seven tackles.
Lions' quarterback Ty Lenhart completed 14-of-27 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Josh Wainwright made seven for a game high 143 yards and caught both touchdown passes.
Brown's defense opened the scoring on Columbia's first offensive possession when Malcolm Brunson stripped the ball from Columbia quarterback Lenhart. The loose ball was picked up by sophomore Nick Messina (East Setauket, NY), who ran 38-yards into the end zone for a touchdown and a 7-0 Brown lead.
The Bears struck again on their first offensive series, driving 64-yards in five plays, capped off by a five-yard touchdown run by Smith giving the Bears a 14-0 lead with 11:29 left in the opening quarter.
Brown scored once again, this time following a blocked punt where Bears' defensive tackle Anthony Mastroni (Monroe, CT) pushed the Lions' blocker into the punt at the Columbia 34-yard line. On a fourth down play, Perry ran into the end zone from two yards out to give the Bears a 21-0 advantage after one quarter.
Columbia opened the second quarter scoring with a 35-yard field goal by Alex Felkins with 9:42 left in the quarter, cutting Brown's lead to 21-3.
A 49-yard touchdown run by Lions' tailback Ryan Young drew the Lions to within 21-10 at the 3:41 mark of the second quarter, capping off a 79-yard scoring drive.
Columbia got a break on an interception off a deflected pass at the Bears' 34-yard line. One play later, Lenhart connected on a 34-yard touchdown pass to Wainwright to trail, 21-17 at the half.
The Bears made a bold call on fourth-and-one at their own 30-yard line, going for the first down and being rewarded with a 70-yard touchdown run by Smith with 1:50 left in the half for a 28-17 lead at intermission.
The Lions opened the half with some razzle-dazzle, scoring on a double-flea-flicker, finishing with a 44-yard pass and run from Lenhart to Wainwright with 11:20 remaining in the quarter to trail 27-24.
Perry connected on a 49-yard touchdown pass to senior Prall (Tipp City, OH), who made a finger-tip catch at the eight yard line and ran into the end zone to give Brown a 34-24 advantage.
Bears' defensive tackle Callum Flanders (Braintree, MA) forced a fumble at the Columbia 25-yard line that was recovered by Mastroni. Seven plays later, LJ Harriott (Central Islip) hauled in a 10-yard touchdown from Perry with 5:48 left in the quarter to build Brown's lead to 41-24.
Perry struck again, this time on a seven-yard touchdown pass to Jackson (Nashua, NH) for a 48-24 lead late in the third quarter. With that completion, Perry set the single-season Brown record for total offense.
Brown concludes its 2019 season at home next week, hosting Dartmouth on Saturday, November 23. Kick-off is 12:00 noon at Brown Stadium.
