
Men’s Tennis Closes Fall Season at the Bear Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team concluded the fall season on Sunday at the Bear Invitational. The Bears hosted Bryant, Dartmouth, James Madison and St. John's in the three-day hidden dual tournament.
"It was a great weekend of matches to close out the fall season," said head coach Tim Gray. "We are very excited about our freshman going into the spring as well as the leadership of the returners."
Day One vs. Dartmouth and St. John's
The Bears opened Friday by winning both doubles matches and all four of their singles matches against the Big Green. Sophomore Robert Siniakowicz (West Windsor, N.J.) (6-2, 6-1) and sophomore Alan Arocho (Norridge, Ill.) (6-1, 6-3) won in two sets while freshman Matthew Mu (La Jolla, Calif.) (4-6, 7-6, 10-5) and junior Teddy van Eck (Rye, N.Y.) (6-2, 4-6, 10-8) battled out wins in three sets. Mu and van Eck teamed up for a 7-5 win in the first doubles spot while Siniakowicz and Arocho took a 7-6 (6) victory.
Brown split both singles and doubles versus the Red Storm. Senior Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) (6-4, 6-1) and junior Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) (6-4, 4-1 (def)) posted wins in singles while Lam and freshman Niraj Komatineni (Mason, Ohio) claimed a 7-5 victory in doubles.
Day Two vs. Bryant and St. John's
Brown won all of their matches against Bryant in the first action of day two, taking all four singles and both doubles matches. Walker posted a 6-3, 6-2 win in the top spot while Lam (6-3, 6-3), Mu (6-1, 6-0) and Komatineni (6-1, 6-1) followed. Komatineni teamed up with Walker for a 6-4 win in the top doubles spot. Mu and Lam easily took their match by a score of 6-0.
St. John's had a strong showing in the second set of matches, taking all four singles matches and one doubles contest. Arocho and van Eck recorded the lone win, a 6-2 triumph in first doubles.
Day Three vs. James Madison and Bryant
Against James Madison on Sunday, Walker posted a 6-3, 6-7, 10-4 singles win and also won his doubles match with Komatineni, 6-4. Senior Peter Litsky (St. Petersburg, Fla.) recorded the other win for the Bears, 6-0, 6-1. Walker and Litsky competed in the final match against the Dukes and took the match, 11-9.
Versus Bryant to close out the tournament, Mu and van Eck claimed a 6-1 win in first doubles while Arocho and Siniakowicz took the second match, 6-4. Mu and Arocho both won their singles tilts, with scores of 6-0, 6-4 and 7-5, 6-4, respectively.
The Bears are off until the spring season when they open up on Sunday, Jan. 19, hosting Quinnipiac (10:00 a.m.) and Binghamton (3:00 p.m.) at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Versus Bryant to close out the tournament, Mu and van Eck claimed a 6-1 win in first doubles while Arocho and Siniakowicz took the second match, 6-4. Mu and Arocho both won their singles tilts, with scores of 6-0, 6-4 and 7-5, 6-4, respectively.
The Bears are off until the spring season when they open up on Sunday, Jan. 19, hosting Quinnipiac (10:00 a.m.) and Binghamton (3:00 p.m.) at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
