
Field Hockey Falls to Cornell, 4-0

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Brown field hockey team was defeated by Cornell, 4-0, on Saturday at Dodson Field. The Big Red scored a goal in each quarter and limited the Bears' attack to just four shots on goal.Â
"Well that was a tough one for us," said head coach Jill Reeve. "We battled tough but weren't able to capitalize on our opportunities."
Cornell (9-5, 3-2 Ivy League) took advantage of its second penalty corner of the game when Claire Jones scored a 6:26 for a 1-0 lead early on. The Big Red made it 2-0 right before the end of the half at 28:55 on a tally by Grace Royer.Â
Shots favored Cornell 5-2 after two quarters of play while corners also sided with the Big Red, 4-1.
Jones registered her second goal of the afternoon at 34:46 to open the second half and increase Cornell's lead to three. Avery Smith later made it 4-0 with her score at 47:14.Â
The Big Red held an 8-7 edge in shots for the second half while corners were even, 4-4. Overall, Cornell outshot Brown (5-9, 1-4 Ivy League), 13-9, and had an 8-5 lead in corners. Â
Sophomore Danielle van Rootselaar (Bilthoven, Netherlands) and junior Lexi King (Granby, Conn.) led the Bears with two shots apiece on goal.Â
Freshman Jodie Brine (Oxshott, U.K.) logged five saves in the cage while Maddie Henry posted four on Cornell's end.Â

Brown is back in action tomorrow (Oct. 27), closing out non-conference play at Quinnipiac starting at 1:00 p.m.
