
Volleyball Pushes Princeton to Four Sets in 3-1 Setback

PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior Makena Ehlert, junior Eliza Grover, and freshman Sophia Miller all tallied double-figure kills, but Brown University volleyball fell at Princeton University, 3-1 (25-21, 25-15, 18-25, 25-16) on Saturday evening at Dillon Gymnasium.

Completing their first road back-to-back Ivy League weekend, the Bears (9-6, 1-4 Ivy) forced a fourth set behind their 25-18 win in set three before the host Tigers (7-6, 3-1 Ivy) – winners of three of the last four Ivy League titles – held on for the victory.

"I'm happy with the way we competed to win set three," Brown head coach Ahen Kim said. "We'll review these matches and look to make some adjustments when we are back home at the Pizzitola Center next weekend."

Grover (Menlo Park, Calif.) registered 16 kills on .536 hitting a night after she landed 10 kills on .615 hitting. She now has six double-figure kill matches on the year.

Miller (Dallas, Texas) totaled 14 kills and nine digs for her fourth double-figure kill match of 2019 while Ehlert (Orange County, Calif.) finished with 10 kills and eight digs for her 13th match this season with double-figure kills.

Sophomore Kristin Sellers (Menlo Park, Calif.) distributed 23 assists alongside six digs, freshman Kaitlyn Wong (Los Altos, Calif.) contributed 11 digs, and junior Bailie Salk (Tiburon, Calif.) added 12 assists.

After Brown opened set one with a 7-1 lead, Princeton rallied to knot the score at 8-8. The Bears went ahead 17-14 before the Tigers used a 5-0 run to grab a 19-17 edge. The visitors pulled within 21-20 before the hosts closed out the 25-21 set win with a 4-1 run. Miller posted five kills in the frame.

In set two, Princeton took a 16-7 lead on its way to a 25-15 set win. After the Tigers took their 16-7 edge, the Bears could pull no closer than eight points.

Brown countered with a 25-18 win in set three. The Bears jumped out to a 10-4 lead and extended the margin to 14-6 and then 18-8. The visitors earned set point at 24-15 before stopping a 3-0 run from the hosts. Grover and Miller tallied seven and five kills respectively in the stanza.

The Tigers won the match behind a 25-16 win in set four. Princeton opened the frame with a 10-4 lead before Brown pulled within 16-11 later in the stanza. The Tigers then used a 4-0 stretch to gain a 20-11 edge on their way to the set victory. Ehlert notched four kills in the period.

For Princeton, Natasha Skov terminated on a match-best 20 kills, Devon Peterkin notched eight kills and 12 digs, Jesse Harris dished out a match-high 36 assists, and Cameron Dames led all players with 19 digs.

Next, Brown returns home to host Cornell on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+) and Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 5:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
