
Ehlert Posts Double-Double, Volleyball Falls to League Leading Cornell, 3-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Makena Ehlert posted her sixth double-double of the season on 12 kills and 12 digs, but Brown University volleyball fell to Cornell University, 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-15), on Friday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

The Bears (9-7, 1-5 Ivy) tested the Big Red (13-2, 6-0 Ivy) in each of the first two frames before the visitors pulled out the straight-set victory, extending their winning streak to 11 matches and remaining atop the Ivy League standings with an undefeated conference record.

"I was really proud of them – the first two sets were back and forth," Brown head coach Ahen Kim said. "In set one they had 14 kills, and we had 15 kills. In set two they had 16 kills, and we had 15 kills. Defensively, they were very prepared. For us, we have a couple of injuries but were still able to maintain a pretty good level in the first two sets. We just couldn't sustain it."

Ehlert (Orange County, Calif.) tallied her 22nd career double-double behind her 12 kills and 12 digs. She has posted double-figure kills in 14 of the Bears' 16 matches this season.

Freshman Sophia Miller (Dallas, Texas) notched 10 kills with seven digs for her fourth double-figure kill match in her last five outings. Freshman Audra Curtin (Tampa, Fla.) landed five kills on .444 hitting, junior Camberly Moriconi (Naples, Fla.) added four kills, four digs, and two blocks, and junior Eliza Grover (Menlo Park, Calif.) tacked on five kills and four digs.

Freshman Kaitlyn Wong (Los Altos, Calif.) contributed 13 digs for her eighth double-figure match in her last 10 contests. Sophomore Kristin Sellers (Menlo Park, Calif.) and junior Bailie Salk (Tiburon, Calif.) distributed 19 and 13 assists respectively.

Set one saw 15 ties and eight lead changes before Cornell emerged with a 25-22 set win. Brown grabbed a 20-19 lead late in the set before the Big Red used a 3-0 run to pull ahead 22-20. The Bears remained within 23-22 before the visitors took the final two points. Ehlert terminated on five kills in the frame while Wong came up with eight digs.

Set two proceeded to witness 14 ties and eight lead changes prior to the Big Red claiming a 25-20 set victory. The Bears trimmed their deficit to 18-17 before Cornell edged ahead 21-18. Brown cut the margin to 21-19, but the visitors closed the frame on a 4-1 run. Miller charted four kills in the period, and Ehlert made six digs.

Cornell finished the match with a 25-14 win in set three. Holding a slight 6-5 lead, the Big Red used a 6-0 run to pull ahead 12-5. Brown used a 4-1 burst to whittle the margin to 16-12, but Cornell responded with six straight points to move ahead 22-12. Ehlert totaled four kills and four digs in the stanza.

For Cornell, Madison Baptiste notched a double-double on 13 kills and 11 digs, Emma Worthington tallied a double-double on 20 assists and 10 digs, Jillienne Bennett registered 12 kills, and Lily Barber posted 14 digs.
