LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The No. 6 Brown ski team competed in two giant slalom races at Whiteface Mountain on Saturday, Jan. 26 and Sunday, Jan. 27. Freshman Maggie Beardsley (Sandy Hook, Conn.) was the Bears' top finisher for both days.
"Maggie fought hard and was the most consistent this weekend," said head coach Alex Norden. "She has a lot of potential which is exciting to see in a first year. I think overall the team skied a little conservatively for what we wanted. These results should get them hungry for next weekend. Once we're all healthy and performing consistently, I think we really can see something special soon."
On Saturday, Beardsley placed 17th overall and was the second collegiate finisher with a combined time of 2:20.67 to help lead the Bears to a fourth-place team finish. Junior Becka Padgett (San Francisco, Calif.) placed 34th overall, the 13th best time for a collegiate racer (2:36.98), while senior Selin Ozulkulu (Monroe, Conn./Istanbul) came in 42nd overall, 24th in the college ranks (3:03.47).
Beardsley was also the second-best collegiate finisher on day two with at time of 2:18.19 while she was 13th overall as Brown came in fifth as a team. Freshman Emi Ruth (Yarmouth, Maine) (2:37.48, 35th overall, 18th collegiately) and Ozulkulu (3:00.37, 44th overall, 27th collegiately) also finished for the Bears.
