PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Rodrigo D'Andrea (Sao Paulo, Brazil) notched the game-winning goal early in overtime as the Brown men's soccer team downed George Washington, 2-1, Friday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
Brown (2-0-0) earned its second straight late-game win after the Bears topped Bryant with a goal in the 89th minute last week. George Washington moved to 2-2-0 overall.
Junior Daniel Schiller (Glenview, Ill.) played a factor in both goals as he posted one tally and assisted on the game winner, giving him a team high five points this season.
Rookie James Swomley (Newton, Mass.) earned the win in net for the Bears, while Thor Arne Hofs made six stops in the loss for the Colonials.
Brown moved out to an early lead when Schiller scored at 9:26 for his second goal of the season. After a turnover in the offensive end, John Vrablic (Avon, Ohio) gained control and fired a shot that was denied by Arne Hofs, but Schiller was there for the rebound and buried the second chance for the advantage. Brown held a 5-2 shot advantage at halftime.
The Bears kept up the offensive pace with more opportunities in the second half, highlighted by back-to-back bids by D'Andrea, while the defense held the Colonials to just three shots in the stanza.
Nevertheless, George Washington evened the score in the 74th minute when Joshua Yurasits connected on a one-timer by means of the team's first shot on target.
Brown roared back in overtime as D'Andrea scored at 92:03. The junior found space after a pass by Schiller and finished with the game winning strike for his first tally of the season.
The Bears outshot the Colonials, 12-5. Schiller and D'Andrea led the way with three shots apiece.
