
Field Hockey Travels to Virginia to Face William & Mary and Richmond

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown field hockey team will play in their first away games of 2018; traveling to Virginia for Friday, Sept. 7 and Sunday, Sept. 9 contests against William & Mary and Richmond, respectively. The match-up against the Tribe will start at 6:00 p.m. while the game versus the Spiders will begin at 12:00 p.m. Sunday's tilt will be streamed live on ESPN+.

OPENING WEEKEND
The Bears split their opening weekend last week, defeating Bryant in game one, 3-1, on Friday, Aug. 31, and falling to Providence the following day, Saturday, Sept. 1, 1-0.
Versus Bryant, Brown overcame an early first-period deficit and took a 2-1 lead by halftime. Senior Rachel Lanouette had a hand in two of the Bears' three scores while senior Ellie Seid netted what proved to be the game winner at 18:03 of the first.
Against Providence, a late second-half goal by the Friars was the difference and the game's only score. Senior Katie Hammaker finished with six saves in goal and fought off 13 PC corners.
THE BEARS
Four players lead Brown in scoring with two points, with senior Ellie Seid and juniors Ali Dunning and Gina Openshaw each having one goal, while senior Rachel Lanouette has two assists. Senior Katie Hammaker has play both of the Bears' games in goal and has a 1.02 goals-against average and an .818 save percentage.
SCOUTING WILLIAM & MARY
The Tribe enter Friday with a 1-2 record, opening up the season with a 4-0 loss at No. 3 Duke on Aug. 24. William & Mary followed with a 4-3 overtime defeat against Old Dominion on Aug. 31 and picked up its first win versus Lafayette, 4-1, on Sept. 2. Estelle Hughes and Annie Snead lead the team in points with five on the year. Hughes has two goals to go along with one assists while Snead has one tally and three assists. Hughes shares the team's goal lead with Woodard Hooper who also has two scores. Morgan Connor has seen all of the minutes in net and has a 2.91 GAA and a .690 save percentage.
SCOUTING RICHMOND
The Spiders are 1-3 on the season with their lone win coming against Lafayette (4-2) on Aug. 31. Richmond fell in overtime, 2-1, in its last game versus Bucknell on Sept. 2. Prior to facing the Bears on Sunday, the Spiders will host No. 21 Old Dominion on Friday, Sept. 7. Elise Zwicklbauer and Jessica Hendry are tied for the squad lead in points with four, both on two goals apiece. Emily Braunewll has seen all of the action in goal and has a 3.33 GAA and a .771 save percentage.
FIRST TIME IN VIRGINIA
This weekend's games will be the Bears' first in the state of Virginia. Brown has played in 12 states outside of Rhode Island.
DOUBLE TAKE
Brown has two sets of siblings on its 2018 roster in junior Allee Ayles and senior Maddie Ayles along with sophomores Anagha Nayak and Anya Nayak.
