Volleyball Falls to Defending Ivy League Champion Princeton, 3-0

PRINCETON, N.J. – Sophomore Gabrielle Moriconi tallied 11 kills on .435 hitting, but Brown University volleyball fell to defending Ivy League champion Princeton University, 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-13) on Friday night at Dillon Gymnasium.

Playing in their first conference road match of the season, the Bears (7-5, 0-2 Ivy) fell to the three-time defending Ivy champion Tigers (9-4, 2-0 Ivy), who hit .447 as a team in the match.

Moriconi (Naples, Fla.) posted her fifth match this season with double-figure kills on her team-high 11 kills. Sophomore Eliza Grover (Menlo Park, Calif.) notched nine kills on .615 hitting.

Seniors Sabrina Stillwell (Laguna Beach, Calif.) and Elisa Merten (Woodside, Calif.) registered eight and seven digs respectively while junior Makena Ehlert (Orange County, Calif.) tacked on another seven digs. Sophomore Kristin Sellers (Menlo Park, Calif.) distributed 14 assists.

Brown remained within 8-6 of Princeton early in set one before the Tigers used a 7-2 run to pull ahead 15-8. Leading 17-10, the hosts closed the frame on an 8-2 stretch to take set one, 25-12. Moriconi terminated on five kills on .714 hitting in the period while Stillwell had five digs.

The Bears stayed within 16-12 of the Tigers in set two prior to Princeton concluding the set with a 25-13 win behind a 9-1 run. Moriconi came up with four kills in the stanza.

In set three, Brown kept the score within 8-5 before Princeton moved ahead 13-6. The Bears cut the margin to 14-9, but the Tigers finished the match with a 25-13 win in the frame. Grover tallied four kills on four attempts in the period.

For Princeton, Devon Peterkin posted a double-double on 13 kills and 14 digs, Maggie O'Connell landed 11 kills on .733 hitting, and Jessie Harris dished out 37 assists.

Next, Brown plays at Penn tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 29 at 5:00 p.m. (ESPN+).
