
Sellers Posts Double-Double, Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to Yale in Ivy Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Kristin Sellers posted her fifth double-double of the season on 28 assists and 16 digs, but Brown University volleyball dropped a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-22) decision to Yale University on Saturday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

In the Ivy League opener for both teams, the Bears (7-4, 0-1 Ivy) nearly forced a fourth set before the visiting Bulldogs (7-3, 1-0 Ivy) – winners of six Ivy titles in the last eight years – closed the three-set outcome. Brown and Yale came into the match-up with the two best records among Ivy teams entering league play.

Sellers (Menlo Park, Calif.) tallied team highs with her 28 assists and 16 digs while senior Sabrina Stillwell (Laguna Beach, Calif.) registered a team-best 11 kills – her 10th match this season with double-figure kills.

Sophomore Eliza Grover (Menlo Park, Calif.) notched nine kills, and junior Makena Ehlert (Orange County, Calif.) contributed seven kills and seven digs. Senior Elisa Merten (Woodside, Calif.) recorded 10 digs for her seventh match this season with double-digit digs. Freshman Paris Winkler (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) added eight digs.

Brown held a 9-7 lead in set one prior to Yale using a 6-0 run to pull ahead 13-9. The Bears remained within 17-15 before the Bulldogs won eight of the frame's last 11 points to take the set 25-18. In the frame, Stillwell terminated on five kills, Merten made six digs, and Sellers finished with seven assists and five digs.

In set two, the Bears stayed within 12-10 before the visitors went on an 8-1 run to claim a 20-11 advantage. Brown cut the margin to 22-15 before Yale closed the 25-15 set win. Sellers totaled 12 assists and six digs in the stanza while Grover had four kills.

The Bears pushed the Bulldogs in set three, but Yale concluded the match with a 25-22 set win. Brown surged ahead 19-16 before Yale responded with a 6-1 spurt to gain a 22-20 advantage. The hosts pulled within one point twice more prior to the Bulldogs winning the set's last two points. Sellers compiled nine assists and five digs in the period while Stillwell and Ehlert landed five and four kills apiece.

For Yale, Kelley Wirth and Ellis DeJardin landed 15 and 13 kills respectively. Frances Arnautou dished out 38 assists, and Kate Swanson tacked on 22 digs.
