
Volleyball Bests Ocean State Rival Bryant in Home Opener, 3-1

Stillwell Posts Sixth Straight Double-Double
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Sabrina Stillwell posted her sixth straight double-double on 19 kills and 10 digs to propel Brown University volleyball to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 27-25, 25-18) win over Ocean State rival Bryant University on Thursday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Playing in their home opener and non-conference finale, the Bears (7-3) totaled 18.5 blocks and hit .282 as a team, including a .424 hitting percentage in set four, to upend the visiting Bulldogs (9-7).

Stillwell (Laguna Beach, Calif.) registered her eighth double-double of the year, adding five blocks to her match-high 19 kills (.350 hitting) and 10 digs.

Sophomore Eliza Grover (Menlo Park, Calif.) tallied 15 kills on .400 hitting while junior Jacqueline Jacobs (Atlanta, Ga.) compiled 12 kills with no errors on 17 attempts for a .706 hitting percentage – the fifth-best single-match hitting percentage in program history. Jacobs tacked on a match-high nine blocks.

Freshman setter Kristin Sellers (Menlo Park, Calif.) distributed a match-best 47 assists with eight digs and five blocks while freshman libero Paris Winkler (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) compiled a team-high 19 digs. Junior Makena Ehlert (Orange County, Calif.) came up with 15 digs, and sophomore Tylin Stiller (Evergreen, Colo.) chipped in six blocks and five kills.

Set one witnessed 15 ties and seven lead changes before Bryant pulled out a 25-22 win. The Bears tied the score at 18-18 before the Bulldogs scored seven of the set's final 11 points. Stillwell posted four kills and four digs in the frame.

Brown responded with a 25-16 victory in set two behind four kills from Stillwell and five blocks from Jacobs. The Bears jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the stanza and never trailed.

The Bears took a 2-1 set lead behind a 27-25 win in extra points in set three. Trailing 19-17, Brown rallied to knot the score at 20-20. Taking a 24-22 lead, the hosts matched a 3-0 Bryant run with a 3-0 burst of their own to claim the set. Jacobs and Stillwell posted six and five kills apiece in the frame.

The hosts closed out the set with a 25-18 win in set four, receiving six kills on .500 hitting from Stillwell and 12 assists from Sellers. Tied at 8-8, Brown scored four straight points to pull ahead 12-8 and did not trail for the duration, closing the match on a 7-2 run.

For Bryant, Julia Flynn landed 15 kills, Kristin Kingi made a match-high 21 digs, and Kirstyn Sperry dished out 25 assists.
