
Cummings, Kaplan Earn Brown Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Women's soccer sophomore back Sydney Cummings and men's water polo freshman attacker Gabe Kaplan have earned Brown University Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 10-16, Brown announced on Monday.

Sophomore back Sydney Cummings tallied the game-winning goal in Brown's 5-0 win over Rhode Island and aided the Bears to a pair of shutouts last week. The Bears' starting center back, she netted her first collegiate goal in the 34th minute against the Rams and helped Brown blank both URI and Vermont. A native of Millstone Township, N.J., Cummings stood as the only Brown student-athlete to play all 200 minutes on the week.
Gabe Kaplan, Men's Water Polo, Freshman, Santa Monica, Calif.
Freshman attacker Gabe Kaplan totaled seven goals, six assists, and seven steals last week as No. 18 Brown went 3-0. A native of Santa Monica, Calif., he tallied two goals and three assists in a 16-2 win over Connecticut College, posted three goals and four steals in a 16-4 win at Austin College on Saturday, and finished with two goals, two assists, and three steals in a 16-6 victory over Austin on Sunday.
