Brown's fall slate is highlighted with the Brown BEAR Invitational hosted for the second year at the Ledgemont Country Club in Seekonk, Mass. Brown will host the invitational October 14-15 with tee times on Sunday and an early shotgun on Monday morning. Fans are encouraged to wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month and watch the Bears compete in their lone home tournament of the season.
The Bears will also travel to two highly competitive 54-hole, 18-team events: the Boston College Intercollegiate, September 24-25, at Blue Hill Country Club in Canton, MA and the Yale Intercollegiate hosted at the Golf Course at Yale on October 5-7.
Brown has reason to be optimistic heading into the 2018-19 season after leading last year's Ivy Championship through 36 holes before finishing third overall, just six shots back.
Pacing the Bears is sophomore Brittany Park, the 2018 Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Year, who tied for third place at Ivy Championship. She also won the Kate Silver Award as Brown's outstanding first year female athlete. Park captured the St. John's Invitational and finished the season with a 75.6 scoring average.
Bears' sophomore Naomi Lee tied for seventh place at the Ivy League Championship with ever consistent scores of (77,75,75) and earned second team All-Ivy honors. She also had two top 10 finishes and 76.82 scoring average.
Sophomore Winnie McCabe placed third individually (76,76) at the Hartford Invitational and paced the Bears with 3 top 10 finishes last year.
Coach Danielle Griffiths' team will welcome the Class of 2022 with three newcomers, Pinya Pipatjarasgit, Roshannah Gaur, and Hailey Freedman.
"The class of 2022 has proven success in the classroom and on the golf course and will be great additions to the team," Said Griffiths. "They all have extensive tournament experience and we are looking forward to the talent and depth that they will bring to the program."
Pipatjarasgit is from Sylvania, Ohio and attended the St. Ursula Academy in Toledo. She was co-captain on a very strong St. Ursula Team that was always a state contender. An accomplished tournament player, Pinya successfully qualified for the US Girl's Junior ('17,'18) the USGA Women's Amateur ('18) and recently played in her first LPGA event at the Marathon Classic in her hometown.
Gaur is from Hinsdale, IL, and attended Hinsdale Central. She led Hinsdale Central to two state titles and was the senior team captain. In addition, she won the IWGA State Junior Championship and the MAJGT Championship at Illinois State, both in 2015. She successfully qualified for the USGA Girl's Junior ('17) and the Junior PGA Championship ('18).
Freedman is from Chapel Hill, NC and attended Cardinal Gibbons HS. She led Cardinal Gibbins to three state titles and was a two-year team captain. Freedman has seasoned tournament experience, playing in many AJGA, Peggy Kirk Bell and the North & South Junior events. She won a scholarship from the Optimist Junior Golf and was named to the All-Scholastic team for her balance of academics, golf and community service.
