
Women's Water Polo Totals 11 ACWPC All-Academic Honorees

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's water polo totaled 11 ACWPC All-Academic honorees and posted the nation's third-highest team GPA, the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches and Collegiate Water Polo Association announced on Thursday.
As a team, the Bears compiled a 3.58 grade point average, ranking third in the country, second among Division I institutions, and second among CWPA schools. The Bears have finished in the top 10 in the team rankings in each of the last 10 years. Brown has totaled 10 or more All-Academic selections in seven of the last eight years.
2018 ACWPC All-Academic Awards
Five Bears garnered "Outstanding" accolades for maintaining a GPA between 4.00 and 3.71 – senior Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.), juniors McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) and Tiffany Zhao (Beaverton, Ore.), sophomore Jamie Smith (Lexington, Ky.), and freshman Alli Schaum (San Rafael, Calif.).
Dakan concluded her career with four All-Academic awards. Miller and Zhao each earned All-Academic honors for the third time while Smith took home the accolades for the second time.
Brown tallied five "Superior" selections for student-athletes with a GPA between 3.70 and 3.41 – juniors Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.), Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.), and Audrey Flower (Portola Valley, Calif.) and freshmen Kaitlyn Cook (Los Gatos, Calif.) and Riley Hughes (Evanston, Ill.). McDougal and Flower both garnered All-Academic for the third consecutive year.
The Bears' "Excellent" choice for recording a GPA between 3.40 and 3.20 was freshman Carissa Perez (Pico Rivera, Calif.).
Eligibility standards for ACWPC All-Academic Awards include that a student-athlete must have competed in 50 percent of the team's games and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher. A team may submit its top 18 student-athletes for the awards.
