PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown University Athletics Department announced today that women's tennis head coach Paul Wardlaw will step down from his position and has accepted the role as Athletic Director of the Dublin School in Dublin, New Hampshire.
Wardlaw recently completed his 14th season with the Bears, building the program into a regional and national contender. He was named ITA East Region Coach of the Year in 2009, after just his fifth season, while guiding the team to a 5-2 Ivy League record. Over his tenure, Wardlaw has had 30 student-athletes earn All-Ivy honors in singles or doubles play, which includes four-time First Team All-Ivy singles recipient Dayna Lord '17. In 2018, Brown boasted a conference-best six All-Ivy selections. He has coached three Ivy League rookies of the year and two ITA northeast rookies of the year while at Brown.
Wardlaw is well known nationally and internationally for his tactical system called Directionals and for Pressure Tennis, his book that outlines a games-approach practice and training system. Over his coaching career, in addition to his accolades at Brown, Wardlaw was named Wilson/ITA Division III Coach of the Decade (2001) and Wilson/ITA Division III Coach of the Year (1993).
A national search will begin immediately to fill the position.
