
Track & Field Competes at Larry Ellis Invite

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) broke the school record in the hammer for the second time this season as the Brown men's and women's track & field teams posted several standout performances at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational over the weekend.
Russell continued to shine in the hammer throw as he broke his own school record for the second time this spring with a toss of 221-7. He took second behind only Adam Kelly of Princeton (235-1).
Senior Martin Martinez (Waukegan, Ill.) turned in a fourth-place finish in the mile at 4:01.66, the second fastest time in program history, behind only Gregory Whiteley '89 in the record book (3:59.12).
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Gwenyth Winship (Bedford, N.H.), Gracie Whelan (Charlotte, N.C.), Hannah Barakat (Los Angeles, Calif.) and May Stern (Providence, R.I.) won the event from the second section with a time of 2:44.46, fifth all-time in Brown history and the fastest time in 21 years.
Kennedy Kerr (West Hempstead, N.Y.) placed seventh in the 200 meters in a time of 24.61, while the Bears secured three top-10 finishes in the triple jump led by Zion Lewis (Canton, Ga.) at 41-2.25. Felicia Renelus (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Mollie Redman (Bedford, N.H.) placed eight and ninth, respectively, at 37-4.5 and 37-1.25.
Freshman Bretram Rogers (Grand Prairie, Texas) was third in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.54 and fellow rookie Noah Ward (North Hampton, N.H.) was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 53-7.
Brown is back in action next weekend when the Bears compete at the Penn Relays and host the Brown Springtime Invitational.
