PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will close out the road portion of its schedule on Saturday, April 21 at Columbia in a 1:00 p.m. contest on the Ivy League Network.

LAST TIME OUT
After a close first half, Harvard opened the second period with five-straight goals to pick up its first Ivy League win and defeat Brown, 17-14, on Saturday at Harvard Stadium. Junior Caroline Zaffino led the Bears in scoring on the day with three goals and one assist while five different Bears recorded two goals apiece.
BEAR LEADERS
Freshman Risa Mosenthal leads the Bears in points with 53, with a squad-best 46 goals and seven assists. Sophomore Emma DeGennaro has 43 points (26G, 17A) to rank second on the team in points while juniors Hafsa Moinuddin (18G, 18A) and Caroline Zaffino (29G, 9A) share third with 38 points apiece. For draw controls, Zaffino has a team-high 74. Senior Marissa Hudgins paces the defense with 20 caused turnovers while sophomore Emily Fryer adds a team-best 32 ground balls, ranking second in the conference (2.46 per game). Sophomore Maggie Bigelow has started 12 games between the pipes and has a 11.89 goals-against average and a 40.1 save percentage. Senior Mikaela Karlsson has appeared in seven games in goal with one start and has totaled 135:21 minutes, a 12.86 GAA and a 45.3 save percentage.
MOSENTHAL LEADS THE WAY
Freshman Risa Mosenthal has had a great start to her collegiate career and has recorded a hat trick in 10 of the squad's 13 games on her way to 46 goals. The rookie's 3.54 goals per game average is third in the Ivy League while her 4.25 points per game are seventh. In the Brown record book, her 46 goals are tied for third all-time with Kerri Whitaker '96 for a single season output. The program record is 60 goals set by Brown Hall of Famer Suzanne Bailey '91 in 1991. Mosenthal's 53 points are also eighth best at Brown for a single campaign.
IT STARTS AT THE DRAW
Brown ranks sixth in the nation in draw controls, averaging 15.92 per game, which leads the Ivy League. Junior Caroline Zaffino's team-high 74 this year rank first all-time for a single season at College Hill. Senior Marissa Hudgins is second on the squad in draw controls with 42.
LAST SEASON VS. LIONS
Sophomore Emma DeGennaro scored the overtime game winner in Brown's first possession of overtime to lift the Bears past Columbia, 14-13, on April 22 at Stevenson-Pincince Field. With a player-down in the extra period, DeGennaro wasted no time and netted the winning goal at 5:22. After trailing 10-7 in the second half, the Bears rattled off four-consecutive goals to take a 11-10 lead at 16:42. Columbia would then knot the game 11-11 and later 13-13 with 1:42 remaining in the contest to force overtime. DeGennaro paced Brown's offense with five points on three goals and two assists. Junior Zoe Verni added four goals while junior Hafsa Moinuddin (2G, 1A) and senior Carolyn Paletta (1G, 1A) added multi-point efforts. In addition to a goal, Marissa Hudgins had a strong game defensively, causing six turnovers.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Columbia is 5-8 on the year and 2-3 in Ivy League play having defeated Harvard (14-13, Mar. 25) and Yale (12-10, Apr. 7) in conference action. The Lions lost their last match-up, a 19-4 decision at No. 9/10 Penn on April 14. Victoria Klmaras holds Columbia's point lead with 45 on the year with 18 goals and a squad-best 27 assists. Alexandria Absey has a team-best 29 goals on the season and also has three assists for 32 points, third highest. Kelsey Gedin has appeared in 12 games in net with eight starts and has a 14.16 goals-against average and a 42.9 save percentage for a 5-6 record. Abby Roberts has played in eight games with five starts, a 15.09 GAA and a 41. 8 save percentage for a 0-2 record.
