
Women's Water Polo Beats Bucknell, 9-7, Falls to No. 11 Princeton, 12-7

PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown University women's water polo beat Bucknell University, 9-7, and fell to No. 11 Princeton University, 12-7, in a pair of Collegiate Water Polo Association games on Saturday at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
The Bears (15-15, 3-4 CWPA) never trailed in their victory over the Bison (12-16, 2-4 CWPA) in their first game of the day before dropping a decision to the host Tigers (19-7, 6-0 CWPA) in their second contest.
Junior Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) led the Bears with four goals between the two games while sophomore Lexi Atwell (La Jolla, Calif.) scored three goals vs. Bucknell. Senior goalkeeper Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) made 22 saves on the day.
Next, Brown plays George Washington University tomorrow, Sunday, Apr. 15, at 2:00 p.m. in its regular season finale.
Game 1 – Brown 9, Bucknell 7
Sophomore Lexi Atwell netted a hat trick as Brown beat Bucknell, 9-7, in its first game of the day at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears opened the CWPA game with a 5-0 lead in the second quarter, led 7-2 early in the third quarter, and held off a second-half rally from the Bison.
Atwell (La Jolla, Calif.) added two steals to her three goals. Freshman Carissa Perez (Pico Rivera, Calif.) posted two goals and an assist, and junior Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) scored two goals.
Junior Allison Woo (Arcadia, Calif.) added a goal and two steals, junior Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.) scored a goal, and junior McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) tacked on an assist and two steals.
Senior goalie Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) blocked 13 shots.
The Bears took a 3-0 edge at the end of the first quarter behind goals from Perez, Rosas, and McDougal in order. Atwell started the second stanza with back-to-back goals to stake Brown to a 5-0 edge. Rosas netted a goal in between a pair of Bucknell markers to keep Brown up 6-2 at halftime.
After Woo initiated the second half's scoring to make the margin 7-2, the Bison used a 4-0 run to pull within 7-6 with 5:40 to play. Brown responded with a pair of goals as Perez and Atwell both converted to push the Bears ahead 9-6 with 2:14 left. Bucknell scored the game's final goal with 1:51 to go.

Game 2 – No. 11 Princeton 12, Brown 7
Junior Carmen Rosas scored two goals, but Brown fell to No. 11 Princeton, 12-7, on Saturday night in its second game of the day at the Tigers' DeNunzio Pool.
The Bears remained within 7-4 midway through the third quarter before the host Tigers closed the stanza on a 4-1 run to take an 11-5 advantage into the fourth quarter.
In support of Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.), five other Bears scored a single goal. Senior Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) tallied a goal, an assist, four steals, and three ejections drawn.
Junior McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) registered a goal, an assist, and three steals while junior Allison Woo (Arcadia, Calif.) and freshmen Riley Hughes (Evanston, Ill.) and Alli Schaum (San Rafael, Calif.) each netted one goal. Freshman Carissa Perez (Pico Rivera, Calif.) distributed two assists.
Senior net-minder Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) stopped nine shots.
After Princeton opened the game with a 2-0 lead, Rosas and Heilman netted back-to-back goals to tie the score at 2-2. The Tigers closed the quarter with consecutive goals to take a 4-2 edge at the end of one.
A goal from Rosas 17 seconds into the second stanza cut the deficit to 4-3 before the hosts netted the quarter's other two goals to gain a 6-3 lead at the break.
Miller converted a goal to bring Brown within 7-4 midway through the third quarter before Princeton concluded the frame on a 4-1 run to claim an 11-5 edge. Woo broke up the run with a goal for the Bears.
A goal from Hughes trimmed the margin to 11-6 with 3:47 to play, and a tally from Schaum sliced the score to 12-7 with 1:44 remaining.
