
Women's Lacrosse Heads to No. 8/7 Penn on Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will travel to No. 8/7 Penn on Saturday, March 24 for a 3:00 p.m. conference game on the Ivy League Network.

LAST TIME OUT
Brown defeated Iona, 10-6, in non-conference action on Sunday, March 18 at Stevenson-Pincince Field. After trailing 5-4 at the break, the Bears outscored the Gaels, 6-1 in the second period en route to their victory. Brown's defense stepped up in the second half with sophomore Maggie Bigelow making seven consecutive saves to hold the Gaels to just one goal on her way to a career-best 13 stops. Junior Caroline Zaffino scored three of her four goals in the second half to power the offense.
BEAR LEADERS
Freshman Risa Mosenthal leads the Bears in point with 34, with a squad-best 32 goals and two assists. Junior Caroline Zaffino is Brown's second leading scorer with 26 points (20G, 6A) while sophomore Emma DeGennaro (18G, 7A) and junior Hafsa Moinuddin (13G, 12A) are tied for third on the team in scoring. Zaffino has the draw control lead with 40 on the year while sophomore Emily Fryer is close behind with 30. Senior Marissa Hudgins leads the defense with 14 caused turnovers while sophomore Maggie Bigelow has started all seven games in net and has a 11.53 goals-against average and a 39.6 save percentage.
MOSENTHAL LEADS THE WAY
Freshman Risa Mosenthal has had quite the opening to her collegiate career and has recorded at least a hat trick in all eight of her first career games on her way to 32 goals. The rookie's 4.00 goals per game average is tied for first in the Ivy League and is also tied for 10th in the nation. Mosenthal's 69.6 shot percentage ranks fifth best in the country. In the Brown record book, her 32 goals are already tied for 18th best in a single season with seven regular season games still remaining on the Bears' schedule.
LAST SEASON VS. PENN
Brown was defeated by No. 11/11 Penn, 7-2, on March 25 at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Despite 10 saves from senior Mikaela Karlsson, the Quaker attack proved too strong as they outshot the Bears 29-17 in the game. Senior Carolyn Paletta and junior Zoe Verni netted Brown's scores on the day.
SCOUTING THE QUAKERS
Penn, ranked No. 8 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll and No. 7 Inside Lacrosse Poll, suffered its first loss of the season to No. 2/4 Maryland, 13-7, at Franklin Field on Thursday. The Quakers had previously knocked off three ranked opponents on the year, in No. 18 Cornell (11-4, March 3), #25 Georgetown (18-6, March 10) and No. 20 Duke (15-11, March 17). Gabby Rosenzweig leads the team in points (39) and goals (26) while also registering 13 assists. Zoe Belodeau carries Penn's assist lead with 15 on the season and has 19 goals to rank second on the team with 34 points and also has a team-high 45 draw controls. Natalie Stefan leads the defense with 15 caused turnovers. Mikaila Cheeseman has started five games in goal and has an 8.78 goals-against average and 54.8 save percentage for a 5-1 record while Maggie Smith has also seen action with three starts, an 8.67 GAA and a 48.0 save percentage for a 2-0 mark.
