
Jackson Newsome Nets Three Goals For Brown, But Harvard Takes A 10-8 Decision

Boston, Mass. - Junior attackman Jackson Newsome (Arlington, VA) scored three goals for Brown, but Harvard's four-goal third quarter advantage was too much to overcome, as the Crimson held on for a 10-8 win over the Bears Saturday afternoon at windy and chilly Jordan Field.
Harvard improves to 5-1 overall, 1-0 in the Ivy League, while Brown falls to 2-3 overall, 0-1 in Ivy play.
The Bears out-shot the Crimson by a wide margin, 45-31, but had trouble finding the back of the net. Bears' goalie Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA) made eight of his nine saves in the second half. Robert Shaw made 17 saves for the Crimson.
Michael Panepinto (Needham, MA) had two goals and an assist for the Bears, while Carson Song (Charlotte, NC) scored a goal and handed out four assists and Luke McCaleb (Oakton, VA) had three assists. Brown junior Ted Ottens (Wilton, CT) captured 14-of-23 face-offs.
Harvard was paced by Kyle Anderson with three goals, while Bryn Evans added two goals. Morgan Cheeks had a goal and three assists for the Crimson.
Harvard jumped out to a 2-0 advantage, but the teams exchanged goals for the remainder of the quarter with Newsome and senior LSM Jake Miller (Heartland, WI) scoring for the Bears to trail, 3-2 after one quarter.
The Crimson had another 3-2 scoring advantage in the second quarter for a 6-4 halftime lead, with Song and Panepinto scoring for the Bears.
Newsome's second goal of the game early in the third quarter cut Harvard's lead to 6-5, but the Crimson answered with three straight goals for its biggest lead, 9-5, with 8:23 left in the quarter.
Brown got back in the game, answering with goals by Stephen Hudak (Rydal, PA) and Newsome with three seconds remaining to trail, 9-7, after three quarters.
Anderson put Harvard back up by three goals, 10-7, with 6:16 left, but Panepinto found the back of the net for the Bears with 2:23 remaining to trail, 10-8.
The Bears travel to Worcester, MA, to face Holy Cross on Tuesday, March 20. Face-off is 7:00 pm at Kuzniewski Field.
