
Women's Lacrosse to Play in Back-to-Back Games this Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will play in back-to-back games this weekend starting with an Ivy League matchup at Yale on Saturday, March 17, followed by a home non-conference contest versus Iona at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Sunday, March 18. Saturday's conference battle will begin at 1:00 p.m. while Sunday's home game against the Gaels will start at 2:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Bears scored just 27 seconds into the contest and never looked back as they defeated Monmouth 20-10 at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Saturday, March 10. Brown carried an eight-goal lead into halftime and were in control for all of the second half while scoring a season-best 20 goals. Junior Caroline Zaffino led the charge for the second game in a row with five goals and one assist. Freshman Risa Mosenthal also had a strong performance with three goals and two assists.
BEAR LEADERS
Freshman Risa Mosenthal leads the Bears in point with 25, with a squad-best 23 goals and two assists. The rookie has scored at least three goals in her first six collegiate contests. Three players are tied for second on the team in scoring with 18 points, with sophomore Emma DeGennaro (14G, 4A), junior Hafsa Moinuddin (8G, 10A) and junior Caroline Zaffino (15G, 3A) sharing the title. Zaffino also leads the team in draw controls with 31. Senior Marissa Hudgins leads the defense with 13 caused turnovers while sophomore Maggie Bigelow has started all six games in net and has a 11.90 goals-against average and a 34.7 save percentage.
LAST SEASON VS. YALE
The Bulldogs took last year's game, 12-10, in Providence, R.I. with the help of a strong second half surge. Brown held a 9-5 lead at halftime but Yale would go on to outscore the Bears 7-1 in the final half to claim the victory. Junior Hafsa Moinuddin (2G, 1A) and sophomore KC Williams (1G, 2A) paced Brown with three points.
LAST SEASON VS. IONA
The Bears cruised past the Gaels in last season's meeting, 16-5, in New Rochelle, N.Y. to improve to 4-0 all-time against Iona. The Gaels had no answer for Brown's offense as the Bears jumped out to a 6-1 lead midway through the first and easily held an advantage through the remainder of the contest. Seven Bears recorded multiple points in the game with seniors Emma Dahle (2G, 1A), Carolyn Paletta (3G) and Hannah Langmuir (1G, 2A) all posting three points. Senior Mikaela Karlsson made 11 saves in the contest, tying her career-high.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Yale is 5-1 on the season, including a 1-0 mark in Ivy League competition, and are a perfect 3-0 at home. The Bulldogs most recently played a non-conference game at Niagara on Tuesday, winning the contest 14-7. Yale's conference win came against Harvard, a 16-15 decision in overtime. The Bulldogs have defeated two ranked opponents on the year, in No. 24 Albany, 12-10 (Feb. 17) and No. 19 UMass, 14-9 (Feb. 24). Canisius handed Yale its lone loss on the season, 10-9 in triple overtime. Kayla Duperrouzel leads the team in goals (13) and points (16) while adding three assists. Emily Grander is the team's second leading scorer with nine goals and six assists for 15 points. Sydney Marks has started all six games between the pipes and has a 9.95 goals-against average and a 46.4 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE GAELS
Iona is 5-3 on the year, most recently dropping its last game at Davidson, 10-8, on Wednesday. The Gaels, out of the MAAC Conference, are outscoring their opponents in the second half by an 11 goal margin (41-30) while they are outscored in the opening frame on the year 37-34. Pamela Giordano is the team's leading scorer with a team-best 22 goals and one assist for 23 points. Jenna Tolzmann is second in scoring with 16 goals and two assists. Shannon McCaffrey has played every minute in net and has a 8.33 goals-against average and a 53.1 save percentage.
