Men's Hockey Falls to Princeton, 7-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Tommy Marchin (Algonac, Mich.) and Zach Giuttari (Warwick, R.I.) both scored, but the Brown men's hockey team fell to Princeton, 7-2, in ECAC and Ivy League action Friday night at Meehan Auditorium.
Brown moved to 6-14-4 overall and 5-11-1 in the ECAC. Princeton won its fifth straight game to improve to 11-10-3, 8-8-1.
Giuttari added an assist for two points, giving the defenseman six points over the past four games, while Sam Lafferty (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) assisted on both goals. Max Véronneau and Jackson Cressey had two goals apiece for Princeton, while David Hallisey had five points.
Ryan Ferland made 33 saves for the Tigers. Gavin Nieto (Yorba Linda, Calif.) stopped 13 shots and allowed five goals, before giving way to rookie Luke Kania (Chicago, Ill.), who made 12 saves.
After Reid Yochim opened the scoring at 4:28, Veronneau made it a two-goal game when he scored with 12 seconds left in the team's second power play of the game.
Marchin trimmed the deficit to one with 2:10 left in the first period. Lafferty controlled possession in the offensive end and flicked the puck toward the net, where Marchin redirected it past Ferland for his team-high ninth goal of the season.
Princeton answered right back, however, when Hallisey scored with 59 seconds remaining to give the visitors a 3-1 lead at the first intermission.
The Tigers added two more goals midway through the second frame, as Eric Robinson finished a breakaway and Cressey scored just over two minutes later.
Giuttari answered back for the Bears at 13:11 with a power-play goal to extend his point streak to four goals. The defenseman settled a pass in the slot and ripped a shot past Ferland for his fourth tally of the season and second in as many games.
Cressey and Veronneau both scored for the Tigers in the third period.
Brown outshot Princeton, 35-32.
Brown will host Quinnipiac tomorrow at 7 PM.
