
Track & Field Hosts Brown Invite, Competes at UCS Invite

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's and women's track & field programs competed at a pair of events over the weekend, as the men's distance medley relay team put up a strong performance at the UCS Invitational before both squads hosted the Brown Invite on Saturday.
UCS Invitational
The men's distance medley relay team competed at the highly competitive UCS Invitational on Friday, consisting of some of the top distance groups in the country. Brown placed fourth overall in a converted time of 9:29.90 on the flat track, trailing only Georgetown, Ole Miss and Villanova, for the 10th best time in the nation this season.
The distance medley team was made up of Zachary Lanigan (1,200), Tosin Oyewole (400), Zack Emrich (800) and Martin Martinez (1,600), while Martinez ran the second-fastest anchor leg at the event.
Brown Invitational
Zion Lewis paced the women's side with a pair of individual victories, claiming the 60 meters at 7.63 and the triple jump with a leap of 40-10.25.
Also on the track, Samantha Valentine won the 800 meters (2:15.54), Elise Claffey captured the 1,000 meters (2:58.90) and Hannah Szapary won the 3,000 meters (10:16.51). Karlly Feng claimed first place the pole vault with a cleared height of 11-5.25.
The Bears captured six events on the men's side, consisting of Max Haensel in the 500 meters (1:04.25), Cameron McKie in the 800 meters (1:58.18), Andrew Foerder in the 3,000 meters (8:23.86), Bretram Rogers in the 60M hurdles (8.27), Paul Touma in the long jump (21-4.25) and Nigel Despinasse in the shot put (52-3.75).
Brown will compete at the Ivy League Championships next weekend in Hanover, N.H.
