
Women’s Swimming & Diving Remains in First at the Conclusion of Day Two of the Bruno Invite

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's swimming & diving team remains in first place with 637 points at the conclusion of Saturday's events at the Bruno Invite at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. Princeton moves into second with 570.5 points while Villanova is in third with 450.5 points.
"It was a working night for our team with a lot of tough doubles," said head coach Kate Kovenock. "Tomorrow is going to be about getting back to pure racing for our swimmers. For our divers, it will be carrying the momentum from getting back in the A-Final on 1 meter today."
The night's finals opened with a second-place finish by the 200 medley relay team of freshman Allyson Ty (North Andover, Mass.), freshman Audrey Lukawski (San Francisco, Calif.), freshman Andrea Wei (Hopkinton, Mass.) and junior Marley Cross (Seattle, Wash.) with a time of 1:42.58.
Freshman Miku Takabayashi (Glastonbury, Conn.) next finished sixth in the A-Final of the 400 IM (4:22.25). The Bears also went 1-2-3 in the B-Final of the event, with Lukawski (4.22.15) winning the heat, followed by freshman Emma Whall (Dover, N.H.) (4:24.64) and junior Sarah Welch (Beverly, Mass.) (4.25.59).
Wei led the Bears in the 100 butterfly and placed third overall with a time of 54.72. Freshman Caylene Rippon (Hershey, Pa.) also came in fifth (54.97) while senior Emma Wittmer (Edina, Minn.) was in seventh (55.24). Sophomore Han Nguyen (Los Gatos, Calif.) grabbed second place in the B-Final (55.42).
Three Bears made the A-Final of the 200 freestyle, with senior Jackie Karpowicz (Wakefield, R.I.) coming in as the top finisher in fifth with a time of 1:50.21. Senior Tatiana Prendella (Bernardsville, N.J.) (1:51.00) and Cross (1:52.34) came in seventh and eighth, respectively. Junior Amelia Gilchrist (Greensboro, N.C.) had a strong finish in the B-Final, claiming second in 1:50.12.
Lukawski came in seventh overall in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.81) as the Bears' top finisher in the event.
Brown went 4-5 in the 100 backstroke with Ty placing fourth (55.38) with sophomore Taylor Seaman (Brighton, Mich.) close behind in fifth (55.58). Welch also came in seventh of the A-Final (56.28).
In diving, freshman Liv Mitchell (Laguna Beach, Calif.) led the Bears with a fifth-place finish and a score of 241.35 in the 1M. She was followed by sophomore Julia Feord (Royal Oak, Mich.) in sixth (236.75) and junior Julia Benz (Superior, Colo.) in eighth (216.80).
A quartet of Gilchrist, Karpowicz, Takabayashi and Prendella closed the day with a fourth-place showing in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:23.24
The Bears will conclude competition in the Bruno Invite tomorrow, Sunday, Dec. 2, with the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 400 freestyle relay and men's/women's 3M.
