Men’s Tennis Closes Play at Bryant Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team wrapped up the Bryant Invitational on Sunday at the Bryant Tennis Complex.
On the first day of action versus the Bulldogs, junior Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) and freshman Alan Arocho (Norridge, Ill.) teamed up for three doubles victories with scores of 6-3, 6-4 and 6-4.
After a loss in their first doubles match (6-3), junior Will Bader (New York, N.Y.) and senior Austin Hearst (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) came back to take their next two matches, both by the score of 6-4.
"It was a very solid day for these guys and it was great to get some wins," said head coach Tim Gray. "I really wanted our guys to focus on doing some different things and overall I feel that they did a really nice job of trying to get out of their comfort zones."
On Sunday, Bader and Hearst won their final doubles match 6-2 while Walker and Arocho suffered their first loss of the tournament, 6-4. For singles, Bader posted an impressive 6-0, 6-0 victory in his match while Walker also claimed a win (6-3, 7-5).
"I saw some solid improvement in the singles play today from a few of the guys and I also saw some areas where we can improve," said Gray. "Overall I am happy with the way we are competing every day."
The Bears next close out the fall season with the Brown Team Tournament Friday, Nov. 9 through Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
