PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Tim Springfield, the Alden-Rothenberg Men's & Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Coaching Chair, has announced the hiring of Margaret Connelly '14 as an assistant coach on Wednesday.
"We're very excited to have Coach Connelly return to College Hill," said Springfield. "She brings a wealth of experiences--at Brown, in the Ivy League, in the Power 5 world, and in the post-collegiate environment. I know she can help our men's and women's programs continue to develop."
Before Brown, Connelly served as a volunteer assistant track & field coach at Iowa State, where she was involved in multiple aspects of the program, including recruiting, training and workout programming. Connelly also spent time at the Roots Running Project, where she was an active member of the USA Championship development running team.
Connelly was a three-time All-Ivy selection in cross country at Brown, including a pair of First Team honors in 2010 and 2012, when she finished fifth and seventh, respectively, at the Ivy Heptagonal Championship. She also added a tenth-place finish in 2011 for Second Team accolades and currently holds the Ivy League Championship record as Brown's all-time performer at Van Cortlandt Park, completing the course at 17:29.5 (5K) in 2010. Connelly competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championship in 2012 after she took seventh at the Northeast Regional for All-Region honors.
After Brown, Connelly competed at Iowa State as a graduate student for the 2014-15 season, where she was named an All-Big 12 Cross Country performer. Connelly was also named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year that season and went on to compete at the NCAA Championship, helping the Cyclones to a runner-up finish.
A two-time team captain for the Bears, Connelly graduated from Brown in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Political Science.
