
Men’s Swimming & Diving Announces Team Captains

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's swimming & diving head coach Chris Ip has announced the program's team captains for the 2018-19 season: senior Matt Orringer and juniors Alex Smilenov, Coley Sullivan and Joon Sung.
Orringer, a senior from Ann Arbor, Mich. and concentrating in Health and Human Biology, enters the year ranked in Brown's top-25 in five events: the 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyle, the 200 butterfly and the 400 IM.
Smilenov, a junior from Katy, Texas and concentrating in Applied Math & Economics, enters the season ranked in the top-25 in six events: the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, and 200 IM. Smilenov also holds three school records in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays and the 400 medley relay.
Sullivan, a junior from Louisville, Ky. and concentrating in Applied Math & Economics, enters the year ranked in the top-25 in five events: the 200 freestyle, 100 and 200 backstroke, and 200 and 400 IM. Sullivan also holds five school records in the 100 and 200 backstroke, 200 IM, and 400 and 800 freestyle relays.
Sung, a junior from Los Angeles, Calif. and concentrating in Neuroscience, enters the season ranked in the top-25 in five events: the 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 and 200 butterfly, and 200 IM.
"I am thrilled to announce our captains for the 2018-19 season," said Ip. "This is a big year for our program, and I am confident that the leadership we have in place will help guide our young team towards a positive direction."
