The Bears hung with the Big Green for a half, trailing 13-7 at intermission. Dartmouth outscored the Bears by a 29-0 margin in the third quarter and added seven points in the fourth quarter.
"Dartmouth is a strong and physical senior football team on both sides of the ball," said Brown head coach Phil Estes. "We made some plays to contain them in the first half, but we didn't make tackles and our inexperience showed in the second half."
Bears' sophomore quarterback Michael McGovern (St. Louis, MO) threw for 271 yards, completing 34-of-55 passes. His favorite target was junior Jaelon Blandburg (Orange County, CA), who caught nine passes for 96 yards, both career highs. Sophomore wide receiver Scott Boylan (Bakersfield, CA) hauled in eight passes for the Bears.
Brown's defensive effort was led by senior Daniel Aidman (Austin, TX), who made 11 tackles, including six solo stops. Sophomore Davis Bak (Tampa, FL) finished with 10 tackles, while freshman Jason Medeiros (Rehoboth, MA) made six tackles. Senior Daryle Banfield (Bronx, NY) and junior Michael Hoecht (Oakwood, OH) each had a quarterback sack for the Bears.
Dartmouth racked up 526 total yards on offense, including 365 yards on the ground. Rashaad Cooper rushed for 98 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown of 18 yards, while Jared Gerbino had 91 yards on eight carries. Miles Smith ran for two touchdowns on runs of 16 and 12 yards, and threw for another.
Big Green quarterback Derek Kyler completed 17-of-27 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Dartmouth's Crudden McKinney made 10 tackles, including two for a loss, while Jackson Perry made four tackles for loss, including two quarterback sacks.
The Big Green got on the scoreboard first, taking a 7-0 lead, when Gerbino connected on a one yard scoring pass to Connor Rempel with 9:32 left in the opening quarter, capping a 57-yard scoring drive.
The game took a big turn in Brown's favor when Bears' punter Ryan Kopec (Alpharetta, GA) got off a 44-yard punt that was fumbled by Dartmouth's Dylan Mellor near the goal line. Brown freshman Charlie Dallape (San Francisco, CA) jumped on the ball in the end zone for a touchdown, tying the score, 7-7, with 7:44 left in the half.
Dartmouth took the lead at the half, scoring with 16-seconds remaining on a five-yard pass from Kyler to Drew Hunnicutt for a 13-7 Big Green advantage.
The Big Green took over the game in the third quarter, out-scoring the Bears, 29-0, on four rushing touchdowns and a two-point conversion, to pull ahead by a 42-7 margin.
As the calendar turns to 2019, Brown will open its season against Bryant next year in Smithfield, RI on Saturday, September 21.
