Â
Brown's offense had its opportunities, with three scoring plays over 50-yards. Unfortunately, that was the majority of the Bears' offense, generating just six first downs for the day. Columbia out-gained the Bears by a 515-254 margin in total yards.
Â
"It was a tale of two halves," said Brown head coach Phil Estes. "We executed some big plays in the first half and failed to make plays in the second half. When we learn to play for 60 minutes we'll have a chance."
Â
Bears quarterback Michael McGovern (St. Louis, MO) passed for 164 yards and threw touchdown passes of 76 and 52 yards.Â
Â
Brown sophomore wide receiver Scott Boylan (Bakersfield, CA) caught three passes for 88 yards, including a 76 yard touchdown reception, and rushed nine times for 27 yards. Junior wide receiver Livingston Harriott (Central Islip, NY) caught five passes for 78 yards and a 52 yard touchdown.
Â
Defensively, junior linebacker Brendan Pyne (Bradenton, FL) paced the Bears' defense with 14 tackles, while senior Daniel Aidman (Austin, TX) and sophomore linebacker Davis Bak (Tampa, FL) made nine tackles each. Freshman Jason Medeiros (Rehoboth, MA) had seven tackles including two for a loss, while breaking up two passes.
Â
Columbia quarterback Ty Lenhart passed for 298 yards, completing 28-of-42 passes.  On the receiving end, Ronald Smith made nine catches for 112 yards.
Â
Lions' second quarterback Kyle Castner came up big from in the wildcat offense, rushing 15 times for 88 yards and three touchdowns.
Â
Columbia's defense was credited with 10 quarterback sacks, led by Dan DeLorenzi with 2.5 sacks.  Sean White made a team high eight tackles for the Lions.
Â
Brown took a 7-0 first quarter lead when McGovern connected on a short swing pass to Boylan, who dodged several Columbia players and ran 76 yards down the home sideline into the end zone with 3:35 left in the quarter. The 76-yard pass play is the 13thlongest in the Brown record book.
Â
After a defensive stop, the Bears struck again to take a 14-0 lead on a 52-yard over-the-top touchdown pass from McGovern to Harriott  with 1:37 remaining in the opening 15 minutes.
Â
Just as Brown dominated the opening quarter, Columbia had similar success in the second quarter, scoring two touchdowns to tie the game, 14-14, at the 8:28 mark of the second quarter.
Â
In a game of big plays, Brown came up with another huge one late in the quarter.
Â
With a little razzle-dazzle, junior Jakob Prall (Tipp City, OH) took a reverse pitch deep in Brown territory and ran 90-yards for a touchdown with five minutes remaining, for the fifth longest rush in Brown football history, giving Brown a 20-14 lead at the half.
Â
Columbia grabbed the lead for good, 21-20,  early in the third quarter on a two-yard run by Castner, and pulled ahead, 28-20, on a double pass from Castner to Ryan Young for a 25-yard score with 5:15 left in the quarter.
Â
The Lions kept up the pressure and built a 42-20 lead with two fourth quarter scores.
Â
Brown wraps up its regular season next Saturday, November 17 against Dartmouth.  Game time is 1:30pm at Memorial Field.Â
