
Stillwell Posts Double-Double, Volleyball Falls at Columbia, 3-1

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Senior Sabrina Stillwell posted her ninth double-double of the season on 10 kills and 12 digs, but Brown University volleyball fell at Columbia University, 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 25-23, 25-13), on Saturday evening at Levien Gymnasium.

Completing a four-match road swing that included their two longest road trips of the season on back-to-back weekends, the Bears (8-7, 1-4 Ivy) captured set two to tie the match at one set apiece before the host Lions (9-6, 3-2 Ivy) took the next two frames.

Stillwell (Laguna Beach, Calif.) tallied her 10 kills on a .304 hitting percentage for her 12th double-figure kill match of the season. She now has 973 career kills.

Junior Makena Ehlert (Orange County, Calif.) terminated on 10 kills – her second double-digit kill performance of the season – while sophomore Eliza Grover (Menlo Park, Calif.) totaled nine kills and four blocks.

Freshman Kristin Sellers (Menlo Park, Calif.) registered 22 assists and six digs, senior Elisa Merten (Woodside, Calif.) notched 12 assists and seven digs, and freshman Paris Winkler (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) added 10 digs – her 12th double-figure dig match of the year.

In set one, the Bears remained within 14-12 before the Lions used a 5-1 spurt to pull ahead 19-13. Brown pulled within as close as 23-19 before Columbia closed the 25-20 set win. Grover tallied five kills in the stanza.

Brown responded with a 25-17 victory in set two behind five kills from Stillwell. The Bears seized a 16-10 edge midway through the set with a 7-1 run. Remaining ahead 19-16, Brown finished the set on a 6-1 streak. Stillwell came up with five kills in the frame.

Columbia took a 2-1 set lead with a 25-23 win in set three. The Lions began the set with a 16-7 advantage and maintained a 24-15 edge. Brown rallied with eight consecutive points to cut the margin to 24-23 before Columbia won the set's final point.

The Lions concluded the match with a 25-13 win in set four. Columbia gained a 10-point edge at 16-6, and Brown could not trim the deficit below seven points the rest of the way.

For Columbia, Emily Teehan posted a match-high 20 kills, Audrey Cheng dished out a match-best 38 assists, and Kalie Wood contributed a match-high 14 digs.

Next, Brown returns home to the Pizzitola Sports Center when it hosts Harvard (Oct. 12, 7:00 p.m.) and Dartmouth (Oct. 13, 5:00 p.m.) on ESPN+.
