
Women's Tennis Outlasted by Gonzaga, 4-2

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Brown women's tennis team closed out competition at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, hosted by Michigan, at the Varsity Tennis Center on Sunday with a tough 4-2 defeat to Gonzaga.
No. 53 Haruna Tsuruta and Alex Bourguignon won the first doubles match of the day over a team of sophomore Juliana Simon (Los Angeles, Calif.) and freshman Semi Oloko (Canton, Mass.), 6-3. The Bulldogs next claimed the point with a 6-4 win in second doubles.
Sophomore Devon Jack (San Marino, Calif.) evened the match, 1-1, with an upset victory over No. 103 Nevada Apollo, 7-6, 6-2 in third singles. Senior Maddie Stearns (Short Hills, N.J.) gave the Bears a 2-1 advantage when she won in second singles, 7-6 (4), 6-3. Sophie Whittle tied the match for Gonzaga with a 6-4, 6-2 victory in first singles. The Bulldogs next won sixth singles, coming from behind, and stole the match with a fifth singles win.
The Bears next host UMass on Friday, Feb. 2 in a 3:30 p.m. match.
