
Women's Soccer Falls at Columbia in Overtime, 1-0

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Natalie Neshat scored the game's lone goal in the 97th minute as Brown University women's soccer fell at Columbia University in overtime, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Commisso Soccer Stadium.
In their first Ivy League road match of the year, the Bears (8-3-0, 1-1-0 Ivy) kept the Lions (6-4-1, 2-0-0 Ivy) off the board in regulation before the hosts scored the golden goal in the first overtime session to remain unbeaten at home this season (5-0-1).
On the game's decisive play Natalie Ambrose played a ball into the left side of the box where Neshat chipped a first-time shot into the back of the net at the 96:46 mark. Columbia net-minder Sophie Whitehouse (4-3-1) made four saves in the shutout.
Brown junior goalkeeper Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) made a game-high seven saves in the setback (8-3-0). She now has 189 career saves, moving into 10th place on Brown's all-time list and passing Priscilla Duffy '82.
The Lions created the better of the game's offensive chances, holding advantages in shots (18-8), shots on goal (8-4), and corner kicks (8-3). Columbia's Emma Anderson tallied a game-high five shots.
Senior Mikela Waldman (San Francisco, Calif.) led Brown with two shots on goal. Freshman Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) put a free kick on target in the 47th minute, and junior Jennifer Caruso (Brockton, Mass.) placed a shot on frame in the 52nd minute.
Next, Brown hosts No. 14 Princeton on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
