
Men's Swimming & Diving Records Third-Best Team GPA, Posts Individual CSAA Scholar All-American Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's swimming & diving team recorded the nation's third-best cumulative grade point average and had four student-athletes earn CSCAA Honorable Mention All-American accolades in an announcement made by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America on Wednesday. Seniors Daniel Klotz (Berlin, Conn.) and Connor Lohman (Prospect, Ky.), sophomore William Steele (Katy, Texas) and freshman Coley Sullivan (Louisville, Ky.) took home the individual honors for achieving a GPA of 3.50 or higher and recording a "B" time standard.
The program earned Scholar All-America honors after posting 3.53 cumulative grade point average during the spring semester, the third-highest GPA in the nation. To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a grade point average of 3.00 or higher over the spring semester.
Klotz, a Health and Human Biology concentrator, recorded three top-5 times in program history during the 2016-17 season. At the Ivy League Championships, he finished fourth in the 50 freestyle, eighth in the 100 butterfly and 10th in the 100 freestyle. In addition, he was also a member of the 400 IM relay team that set the program's best time at the Championships.
Lohman, a Health and Human Biology concentrator, put four times on Brown's top-5 list. He placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke at the Ivy League Championships and competed in the 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM. Like Klotz, he was also a member of the 400 IM relay team that set the program mark at the Championships.
Steele, an Applied Mathematics-Economics concentrator, posted two times on the program's top-10 all-time list. He swam to a 12th-place finish in the 100 butterfly at the Ivy League Championships. He also competed in the 50 freestyle and the 200 butterfly at the Championships.
Sullivan, an Undeclared concentrator, had an impressive freshman campaign with four of his times ranking in the top-10 all-time at Brown. Individually, he finished 11th in the 200 backstroke and 12th in the 400 IM at the Ivy League Championships while also competing in the 200 IM.
As a team, three program records were set for the Bears in the 2016-17 season while 18 new marks made the school's all-time top 25 list, with 14 of them in the top 10.
