
Women's Lacrosse Welcomes Columbia for Senior Day on Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will play in its final home contest of 2017 and host Columbia on Saturday, April 22 for Senior Day. The game will begin at noon with a brief senior ceremony held prior to the start of the contest. The game will also be broadcast on the Ivy League Digital Network and ESPN3.

LAST TIME OUT
Brown defeated UMass Lowell, 12-6, to close out non-conference play for the 2017 season on Wednesday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Brown's defensive overpowered UMass Lowell and caused 21 turnovers in the game. Offensively, five Bears recorded multiple points with sophomore Hafsa Moinuddin leading the way with five (4G, 1A).
LAST YEAR VS. COLUMBIA
The Lions recorded their first win over the Bears last season with a 13-9 victory at Robert K. Kraft Field. Columbia rattled off four-straight goals to start the first half before Brown got on the board. The Lions also opened the second with three consecutive scores to control the contest. Sophomore Hafsa Moinuddin led the Bears with four points, on two goals and two assists.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Columbia brings an overall record of 7-6 into the weekend with a 2-3 mark in the Ivy League. The Lions lost to No. 9 Penn last week, 17-7. Columbia's conference wins have come against Yale (15-14, April 8) and Dartmouth (17-10, March 5). Nicole Kalamaras has the squad lead in points with 54, on a team-high 35 assists and 19 goals. Taylor Quinn has the squad lead in goals (42) and has two assists for 44 points, second on the team. Her 3.23 goals per game rank third in Ivies. Kelsey Gedin has started all 13 games in net for the Lions and has recorded a 11.99 goals-against average and a .464 save percentage. Columbia ranks second in the conference in caused turnovers, averaging 9.69 per game.
BROWN LEADERS
The Bears offense is powered by sophomore Hafsa Moinuddin, who has 40 points on 29 goals and 11 assists. Against Harvard last weekend, the Cheshire, Conn. native recorded a career-high seven points with three goals and four assists. Sophomore Carolyn Paletta is second on the squad in points with 28 goals and five assists. Sophomore Zoe Verni (21G, 2A) is third on the Bears in scoring and recorded a career-high four goals versus UMass Lowell on Wednesday night. Junior Marissa Hudgins is Brown's caused turnover leader with 26 and also paces the Bears in ground balls with 35 on the year. Junior Mikaela Karlsson has started nine games in net and has an 8.07 goals-against average and a .536 save percentage. Freshman Maggie Bigelow recorded her first-career win in goal against Cal on March 29 and then started her first game versus San Diego State (March 31). In seven games played with four starts, the rookie has totaled a 11.44 GAA this season along with a .453 save percentage.
2017 SENIOR CLASS
Brown will honor its 2017 seniors in a brief ceremony prior to the start of the game on Saturday. The five seniors include: Kerianne Hunt, Ali Kim, Mollie Lane, Jillian Lee and Sarah Peters.
