
Fencing's Masood Concludes Competition at NCAA Fencing Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Brown University sophomore Umar Masood closed competition at the 2017 NCAA Fencing Championships with three wins in men's foil on the second and final day of men's action at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Friday morning.
A native of Pittsford, N.Y., Masood finished his first trip to NCAAs with a 7-16 overall record, a -34 indicator, and a 20th-place finish out of 24 competitors.
The 2016 NFC Men's Rookie of the Year, Masood notched a 2-2 record in round four with a -3 indicator before finishing competition in round five with a 1-3 record and a -4 indicator. On Friday, he tallied a 3-5 record with a -7 indicator. Over rounds two through five, he posted a 6-10 record and moved up three spots to 20th place.
Making his debut at the NCAA Championships, Masood went 4-11 in rounds one through three on Thursday, standing in 22nd place out of 24 competitors with a -27 indicator.
A 2017 Second Team All-Ivy honoree, Masood went 1-6 in the first round and nearly picked up two more wins, dropping a pair of 5-4 decisions. He tallied a 2-2 record with a -1 indicator in round two and finished with a 1-3 mark and a -7 indicator in round three.
Heading into semifinal competition on Friday, Brown stood in 18th place out of 20 schools in the team standings.
