
Women's Water Polo Defeats Connecticut College, 15-5

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Marisa Kolokotronis tallied eight points on five goals and three assists as Brown University women's water polo beat Connecticut College, 15-5, on Tuesday night at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
In their first home game since Feb. 5, the Bears (8-1) gained a 9-4 halftime lead and outscored the visiting Camels (1-6), 6-1, in the second half en route to the win.
Junior Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) netted four goals in support of Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.). Sophomore Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) posted two goals and an assist while sophomores Allison Woo (Arcadia, Calif.) and McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) dished out four and two assists respectively.
Freshman Hannah Eliot (Los Angeles, Calif.) notched a goal and an assist while senior Shannon Crowley (Seal Beach, Calif.), sophomore Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.), and junior Ally Donahue (Tampa, Fla.) each added a single goal.
In the cage, freshman goalie Lauren Burns (Long Grove, Ill.) made four saves with an assist in the first half. Rosas stepped into goal for the second half, making six saves and permitting just one goal.
The Bears opened the game with a 3-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest as Kolokotronis scored from the left side before Heilman and Rosas both converted on breakaways. After a pair of Camel goals, Kolokotronis netted back-to-back tallies to push Brown ahead 5-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Brown opened the second quarter with four straight goals as part of a 6-0 run to move ahead 9-2 with 5:10 to play in the frame. Heilman started the second quarter run with consecutive markers before Rosas and Kolokotronis found the back of the net. Woo assisted on the first three goals of the quarter. Conn. College scored the final two goals of the half to pull within 9-4 at the break.
Kolokotronis scored 20 seconds into the third quarter prior to an answer from the Camels. The Bears netted the next three goals in the frame with Donahue, Crowley, and Eliot all scoring. Kolokotronis provided the assists on the first two goals in the streak as the hosts led 13-5 heading to the fourth quarter.
McDougal and Heilman each logged tallies in the fourth frame to give Brown its 10-goal advantage.
Next, Brown begins its nine-game, seven-day spring break trip to the state of California with match-ups against Occidental and Redlands on Saturday, Mar. 25 at 5:00 p.m. ET and 8:00 p.m. ET respectively.
