PRINCETON, N.J. - The Brown women's hockey team, playing its second ranked opponent in as many days, was defeated by No. 9/9 Princeton, 6-1, on Saturday at Hobey Baker Rink. Princeton registered two goals in each period en route to its win. Freshman Sarah Migliori (East Greenwich, R.I.) recorded Brown's goal in the contest.
The Bears (5-20-0, 3-15-0 ECAC) opened the first period with back-to-back power-play opportunities but Princeton registered the game's first score at 10:47 (Carly Bullock). Later in the period, Princeton (15-7-3, 11-5-2 ECAC) again committed penalties one after another. Brown recorded 10 shots during both power-plays but was shutout by the Tigers' penalty kill.
Just before the close of the first, the Tigers took a 2-0 lead with a goal from Karlie Lund (19:40). Shots were even in the opening period with both teams putting 17 on net. Brown was 0-for-4 on the power play and did not commit an infraction of its own in the first.
Princeton made it 3-0 at 2:41 when Cassidy Tucker put one in. Mackenzie Ebel provided the Tigers with a 4-0 advantage at 3:20. Unlike the first period, Princeton held the shot lead, 21-6, in the second, with senior Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) recording 19 saves for Brown. Both teams were 0-for-1 on the power play in the stanza.
Kelsey Koelzer netted Princeton's fifth goal in the third at 8:45.
Migliori got the Bears on the board when she deflected in a pass from sophomore Abby Niewchas (Cochrane, Alberta) for her fourth goal of the year while the Bears were on the power play at 12:56. Sophomore Bridget Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) was also credited with an assist.
Keiko DeClerk, the sister of Brown freshman Hana DeClerck (Menlo Park, Calif.), ended the game's scoring at 19:33 and put Princeton up 6-1. The Bears edged the Tigers in shots for the third, 10-9.
Freshman Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) recorded seven saves in the third while Elvin finished the game with 34, her 11th 30+ save performance of the season. Alysia DaSilva posted 32 saves for Princeton.
Princeton held the shot advantage for the game, 47-33. Brown was 1-for-7 on the power play while the team's penalty kill shutdown the Tigers in their lone attempt.
The Bears next return to Meehan Auditorium for their final home weekend and battle Colgate on Friday, Feb. 10 and No. 7/7 Cornell on Saturday, Feb. 11. Friday's game will start at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Brown's senior ceremony held before puck drop.
