
Men's Swimming & Diving Concludes Third Day of Ivy Championship with a Relay Record

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown men's swimming & diving team sits in sixth place with 553 points after the third day of the Ivy Championship at Blodgett Pool. To cap off the night's finals, the Bears' 400 medley relay team broke the program record.
"Today we had a solid team effort with all of our Bears scoring in finals," said head coach Chris Ip. "I'm excited to see our freshmen begin to adapt to the intensity of the meet under the leadership of the upperclassman. We need the men to rise up for one more day to reach our team's season goals."
Junior Grant Casey (North Attleboro, Mass.) started the night's events in the 1000 freestyle in 14th-place with a time of 9:21.00.
In the 400 IM, freshman Coley Sullivan (Louisville, Ky.) placed fourth in the B Final with a mark of 3:57.61 while sophomore Matt Orringer (Ann Arbor, Mich.) finished eighth (4:01.12).
Senior Daniel Klotz (Berlin, Conn.) turned in an eighth place showing in the A Final of the 100 butterfly with a NCAA B time of 48.14. In the B Final of the event, sophomore William Steele (Katy, Texas) placed fourth (48.58) while junior Riley Springman (Orlando, Fla.) (48.97) and Nicholas Brown (Sudbury, Mass.) (49.03) finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Freshman Joon Sung (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished second in the C Final in 48.64.
The B Final of the 200 freestyle saw freshman Alex Smilenov (Katy, Texas) place second with an NCAA B mark of 1:37.99 and freshman Cody Cline (Wellington, Fla.) finish fourth (1:38.55). Freshman Jagger Stephens (Agana Heights, Hagatna, Guam) touched the wall in third of the C Final in 1:39.68 while sophomore Charles Steele (Katy, Texas) was seventh (1:41.74).
Senior Connor Lohman (Prospect, Ky.) finished eighth in the A Final of the 100 breaststroke with a NCAA B time of 54.70, the third-best mark all-time at Brown. Sophomore Waylon Jin (Berwyn, Pa.) finished seventh in the B Final of the event (56.81) and freshman Toshiki Takahashi (Tokyo, Japan) was third in the C Final in 57.12.
In the B Final of the 100 backstroke, senior Nicholas Johnston (Pleasanton, Calif.) placed second in 49.09, while N. Brown was fourth (49.90).
In diving, senior Jonathon Schlafer (Uniontown, Ohio) won the B Final in the 3M with a score of 293.90 while Bryce Campanelli (Palmyra, Va.) was fifth (249.10).
To close out the events, a team of Johnston, Lohman, Klotz and Smilenov finished fifth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:15.14, just breaking the school record of 3:15.19 that was set in 2014.
The final day of the Ivy League Championship from the Blodgett Pool starts at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow with preliminary time trials starting with the 200 backstroke. Finals will begin at 6:00 p.m.
