
Women's Tennis Cruises Past Syracuse, 6-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Brown women's tennis team defeated Syracuse, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon. The Bears won the doubles point and then picked up five wins in singles play en route to their victory.
Senior Dayna Lord (Bloomfield, Conn.) and Alyza Benotto (Los Angeles, Calif.) teamed up for a 6-2 win in first doubles. Freshman Devon Jack (San Marino, Calif.) and Juliana Simon (Los Angeles, Calif.) clinched the point for Brown with a 7-6 showing in third doubles.
In singles play, sophomore Taylor Cosme (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) won sixth singles 6-2, 6-0. Jack next posted a win (6-4, 6-1 – fourth) to give the Bears a 3-0 advantage. Lord followed in first singles with a 7-5, 6-0 victory. Syracuse won the third singles match to bring the score to 4-1. Benotto then defeated No. 74 - ranked Gabriela Knutson, 6-4, 2-6 (10-5) in second singles. Sophomore Katie Ta (Mission Viejo, Calif.) closed out the Bears' wins and 6-1 victory with a 6-2, 7-5 showing in the fifth spot.
The Bears return home to the Pizzitola Sports Center and next host Stony Brook on Saturday Feb. 25 for a 2:00 p.m. match.
