PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown field hockey team was defeated by No. 24 American, 7-1, on Sunday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field. Sophomore Corinne Condie (St. Louis, Mo.) scored the lone goal for the Bears in the contest, her first career tally.

"Our efforts today were individualized and lacked cohesiveness," said head coach Jill Reeve. "Corinne scored a great goal and Katie Hammaker played tough in goal."

American (10-4) controlled the opening half and scored its first goal of the game at 10:36 (Kathryn Roncoroni). Hailey Bowcutt added the Eagles' next score at 26:34 and Noor Coenen put in the team's third tally to give them the advantage at the break. American generated 15 shots in the first period with junior Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) making seven saves in the cage for Brown (1-10).

Coenen opened the second half with her second score of the contest (38:04) and Rafaela Rubas increased American's lead to five at 45:27.

Brown got on the board when Condie caused a turnover at the midfield and sprinted towards the goal on a breakaway, beating American goalie Alexandria Morris for her first collegiate score at 52:35.

American would close out the game with two more scores from Coenen, at 56:04 and with time expired on a penalty corner.

Hammaker concluded the match with 10 saves while sophomore Allee Ayles (Westwood, Mass.) also made four stops for the Bears.

The Bears will next welcome No. 14 Princeton and Holy Cross to Goldberger Family Field on Saturday, Oct. 14 and Sunday, Oct. 15, respectively. The Ivy League match-up on Saturday will begin at noon while the non-conference game will start at 1:00 p.m. the following day.
