PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Tyler Bird (Andover, Mass.) and Brent Beaudoin (Londonderry, N.H.) both scored, but the Brown men's hockey team fell to Yale, 5-2, in Saturday night's ECAC contest at Meehan Auditorium.

Brown moves to 1-1 on the season after splitting the home-and-home series with Yale. The Bears won on the road on Friday, 4-1.

Gavin Nieto (Yorba Linda, Calif.) made 22 saves for the Bears. Sam Tucker recorded 20 saves in the win.

After the two teams swapped power plays midway through the opening period, Brett Jewell gave Yale the lead at 14:05, when he tapped home a rebound after Nieto stopped the initial shot.

Bird evened up the score with a power-play goal just 2:45 into the second period. Max Willman (Barnstable, Mass.) slid a pass in front of the net to Bird, who beat Tucker stick side to even the score. Joe Maguire (Dix Hills, N.Y.) also earned an assist on the play.

Yale regained the lead at 7:43 when Joe Snively blasted a shot from the right circle and past Nieto. The two teams combined for eight penalties in the second frame and drew even in shots, 9-9.

Beaudoin evened the score at 2:17 in the third period with his second goal in as many nights, scoring on a wraparound that just beat Tucker. Tim Lappin (St. Charles, Ill.) and Anea Ferrario (Ogden, Utah) were credited with assists.

Yale answered right back four minutes later to move back in front. Mitchell Smith rifled a shot from the right circle and Nieto was able to get a piece of it, but the puck flicked over his back and into the net.

Brown benefited from consecutive Yale penalties midway through the stanza, but the Bulldogs held off the attack to preserve the lead. Snively added his second goal of the game at 17:13 before Evan Smith tacked on an empty-net goal to secure the win.

Brown will travel to Dartmouth (11/3) and Harvard (11/4) next weekend for a pair of conference games.
